After stopping by to check in on the progress of the joint mural between Jeff Soto (interviewed) and Maxx242 in Riverside, we dropped by a couple days ago to see the finished two-wall piece. The long time friends, collaborators (see Berlin & Luxembourg), and artists who have spent most of their lives in the area hope that this new mural will be the beginning of a new renaissance for public art in this part of Southern California. Head over to University and Lemon yourself for a look if you are close by. After purchasing a miner’s cabin in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado just prior to the legalization of marijuana, Jacobsen was inspired to create oil on linen works featuring the “sacred herb” along […]

With the seven meter tall version of his iconic Companion figure holding two smaller characters in his arms standing guard, visitors and residents of the largest city in China will certainly get a good […]

On the cover of this month’s New York Times Magazine is a special project prepared by JR (interviewed) for their Walking New York issue. Focused on the issue of immigration as of late, the famous street artist decided to photograph recent immigrants walking down the streets of Nolita and in turn pasting their images on city streets, where they are often invisible despite there being approximately 3.1 million of them in NYC. The final chosen subject for the cover was Elmar Aliyev, a 20-year-old waiter at Old Baku, an […]

Fashion: Bäst, Paul Insect, and Rostarr for Cocurata

Artists Bäst, Paul Insect, and Rostarr have recently collaborated with a new fashion label, Cocurata, on their inaugural collection. Bringing an urban sensibility to the design, the new line entitled Extraction is a nice start to the company, founded by George Gorrow and George Benias. Their idea was to arrange a “direct exchange between artist and artisan – a street artist working with a jeweler, a sculptor collaborating with a perfumer or a painter creating bespoke, ready to wear pieces – that would result in artwork […]
