Kid Acne’s latest solo exhibition kicked off this week at StolenSpace and AM went along to see the work for ourselves at the opening on Thursday evening. Steal From Work (the guys that put on the 12 Days of Christmas and Not a Penny More group shows in Bristol) put on their first show in two years on Bristol’s busy Park Street. The production entitled Flogging a Dead Horse promised to be “a group show featuring the best (and worst) urban street contemporary artists in the world” and at first glance they really were true to their words. David B. Smith Gallery in Denver’s next exhibition will be Zero-zero – a new collection of work from Jason Thielke. Unlike Thielke’s recent work where he uses gel transfer and laser etching to produce his compositions, Zero-zero promises an entirely fresh body of work comprised of drawn and painted works. AM recently had the opportunity to go visit Polly Morgan in her East London studio. We anticipated what we might see. Tales of Polly’s ‘chamber of horrors’ from friends who had visited previously sounded intriguing and exciting, and this promised to be a very different studio visit experience for us. Whilst visiting Sheffield at the weekend, AM came across this new city centre piece from Phlegm. This cool sequential piece looks like it could have jumped straight out of the pages of the latest issue of his comic; and was painted over an older style colour Phlegm piece – the evidence of which can be seen seeping through the red background and also still partly intact top left of the shot. AM ventured over to the wilds of South Yorkshire this weekend to visit the studio of Kid Acne, who is currently putting together a new body of work for his upcoming solo show at StolenSpace entitled Rhythm is a Dancer. Showing: ‘Unintended Calculations’ @ Becker Galleries, Vancouver

Augustine Kofie, Jerry Inscoe, Remi/Rough and Scott Sueme were recently brought together for Unintended Calculations, an exhibition well curated by Indigo at Becker Galleries in Vancouver. The group of painters make for a dynamic combination, and each of the foursome presented post-graffiti inspired by abstract expressionism within their work. As well as the gallery exhibition, the artists took to the streets of Vancouver for some commissioned murals, which you can see here, courtesy of Graffuturism. Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto continue to impress us with a superb roster of artists. Their latest, Good Folks, opened last week and featured Swoon (interviewed), Monica Canilao, Jeremiah Maddock, Derek Mehaffey (aka Other), Labrona and Troy Dugas. Good Folks looks another well curated show, and brings together a distinguished balance of artists from the fringes of the folk art, street art and protest art movements.
