Releases: Martin Wittfooth – “The Blind Fisherman” Print

Hot on the heels of Martin Wittfooth’s solo show, “Tempest”, opening last weekend at Copro Gallery (previewed here), Virtu Gallery has just released a new fine art edition from the New York based artist. “The Blind Fisherman”, one of AM’s favourite paintings by Wittfooth from last year – the original painting first seen at Jonathan Levine’s Beach Blanket Bingo 2009 summer group show (covered here) – is now available in signed and numbered editions of 40 on varnished paper and an uber-limited edition of 10 on varnished canvas. […]

Preview: Wayne White – “I Fell 37 Miles to Earth 100 Years Ago” @ Marty Walker Gallery

One of the highlights of our visit to Basel week in Miami last year was seeing Los Angeles artist Wayne White’s work displayed at Mireille Mosler’s booth at the Nada Art Fair. AM has since been looking forward to a showing of Wayne White’s work, and that time has now come in the shape of his solo exhibition “I Fell 37 Miles to Earth 100 Years Age” at the Marty Walker Gallery opening this Saturday in Dallas, Texas. For those not familiar with Wayne’s work, […]

Openings: “A Decade of Faile” @ Lazarides Gallery

The final stop on AM’s Thursday-night London openings hop was the 10 year retrospective at Lazarides Rathbone Place gallery from one of our favourite street art teams – Faile. “A Decade of Faile” gave us a glimpse of just about every facet of the Brooklyn artists’ oeuvre – with the exception of the most recent wooden block pieces. Carved wooden prayer wheels (featured)- first seen at the last London Laz show (covered), and just begging to be spun, the much loved boxes, early works on reclaimed wood, […]

Openings: Ericailcane / Will Barras / DEM – “Original Cultures” @ StolenSpace

StolenSpace’s official start to 2010 has arrived in the shape of “Original Culture” featuring an Anglo-Italian line up of Ericailcane, DEM and Will Barras. Will Barras was at the opening this Thursday night, and his element of the show consisted of a series of stunning and poignant works painted in situ. Will told us that the paintings were inspired by news he heard on the radio of the author Terry Pratchett, who suffers from Alzheimer’s, who had proclaimed that he would end his own life […]

Openings: The Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade at Lazarides – Greek Street

London art fans turned out this Thursday night to witness the most simultaneously fun and original show we’ve witnessed since, well, probably ever! The “Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade” is in town and after a week of installation time, is now officially open for business! Faile (aka: the Patricks) and Bast transformed the ground floor into a fully functioning video game arcade, with old school cabinets – some of which we recognized from our misspent youth – being given the paste-up treatment. Read on for more details and pictures […]

Installation / Preview: The Faile & Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade @ Lazarides

Lazarides seems to be kicking off 2010 in style with not one, but two shows featuring Faile (see our recent studio visit here) opening in London this week. We gave you some news on the shows a little while back, and we’ve been counting the days in the run up to this week. Greek Street – the old location of the gallery, and now commonly known as the Lazarides shop – will be hosting ‘”The Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade”, where Faile are teaming up […]

Interviews / Preview: Tristram Lansdowne – “Refuge” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Toronto-based artist Tristram Lansdowne (featured) opens his New York – and United States – solo debut “Refuge” this coming Saturday, February 13th, at Joshua Liner Gallery in the heart of Chelsea.  The exhibition follows his recent solo show with LE Gallery in Toronto last year (see our coverage here) and we’re definitely enjoying Tristram’s vision of the defaced and derelict, along with the surprises that may lie within or beneath the surface. AM caught up with Tristram and put some questions to him ahead of the […]

Sickboy – “Logopop Bristol” @ Friend & Co. Gallery

This week will see somewhat of a homecoming for UK street artist Sickboy as he opens the second installment (first was in London) of his Logopop shows at Friend & Co. Gallery in Bristol this Friday, February 5th. Widely known in the streets of the UK for his signature yellow and red temples, Sickboy promises a site specific installation using mixed media and digital technology alongside his interconnecting Logopop pieces plus other original artwork.

Openings: Sas & Colin Christian – “Inner Space” @ Opera Gallery (London)

AM dropped into Colin and Sas Christian’s debut UK show opening last night at Opera Gallery’s London location. When we first saw the preview images, which we showed you here, from husband and wife Colin and Sas, we knew that this would be be a must see show. Both artists had taken things to another level in terms of the scale that they worked to – Sas going big on canvas and Colin going supersize with his sculptures, the largest of the pieces being around 9 […]
