Openings: Conor Harrington – “Headless Heroes” @ Lazarides

Conor Harrington‘s (interviewed) solo show entitled “Headless Heroes” opened last night at Lazarides Gallery in London, and AM went along to take a look at the new pieces Conor had been working on since his last showing at Kinsey/DesForges in Los Angeles along with his partner, artist Chloe Early (covered). The new body of work saw some familiar and always welcome themes in Conor’s “weekend warriors,” as he has termed them – representations of men in military regalia who dress up for the weekend to relive past colonial triumphs, interwoven […]

Studio Visits: Chloe Early

We’re big fans of the ever-so-talented Chloe Early (interviewed) here at AM, and recently were honoured to visit her studio in London. Chloe is currently preparing for her most ambitious solo show to date at London’s StolenSpace gallery, entitled “Clouded Apollo,” which is the name of a species of butterfly. Chloe tells us that the title for the show was inspired by the themes of flight, hovering, suspension, mythology, light and lunar missions – all of which she has been exploring within this body of work. […]

Openings: Green Day – “The Art of Rock” @ StolenSpace

AM just got back from the opening of Green Day’s “The Art of Rock” show at London’s StolenSpace gallery (previewed), the night before the band starts a run of sold out dates on the UK leg of the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. Logan Hicks (interviewed) curated the group show, which consisted of 18 pieces of art inspired by the lyrics of the new album. The participating artists were M-City (Mariusz Waras), Meggs, Peat Wollaeger, Pisa73, Ron English (featured), Sadhu, Sixten, The London Police, Will Barras, Adam (5100) […]

Openings: Lori Earley “Laments & Lullabies” @ Opera Gallery London

We recently showed you a couple of preview images from the wonderful Lori Earley’s debut UK solo show, “Laments and Lullabies,” and the teaser images got our expectations rising high to see Lori’s work first hand. AM went along to the private view reception at the Opera Gallery to take a look for ourselves – check out our pictures after the jump.

Openings / Giveaway: Adam Neate – “A New Understanding” @ Elms Lesters

Adam Neate’s much anticipated solo show “A New Understanding” opened last night at Elms Lesters Painting Rooms and AM went along to see just where Adam’s new direction had taken him. After revealing to us in our recent interview that he’d been through some troubled times during the creation of this work, we were pleased to see him in good spirits happily chatting to fans and collectors whilst signing an almost endless stream of books and posters. His classic and recognizable self portrait profile made […]

Interviews: Eric White

Following on from our recent studio visit with Eric White, we put some questions to the Brooklyn based painter ahead of his New York solo show “LP” at Sloan Fine Art. AM thought that the concept he had behind the work was captivating – reworked album covers that carried an influence for the artist before he got his first CD player back in 1983 – all in a 12 inch square format, of course. This is Eric’s first NYC solo since the phenomenal “Who Are […]

Streets: Hush in Newcastle

It’s always exciting to see artists changing things up a bit and we enjoyed these pictures that Hush (interviewed) just sent to us. After recent Stateside shows in LA at Carmichael Gallery (covered) and at Fifty24 / Upper Playground in SF (covered), Hush has a solo exhibit a little closer to home in London coming up this November. Hush called these pieces “expressions” that he’s been putting up in “dark and lonely places” around the UK – these first ones are in Newcastle. We wonder […]

Openings: POW Shop Opens Its Doors

Pictures On Walls (POW) opened a new shop-cum-gallery in London last week and AM dropped in to take a look around at what goodies might be on offer. Rather than being just a print shop, we were pleasantly surprised to find some real gems of hand worked prints plus original works for sale by some of our favourites; including a Banksy canvas, a huge Stephen Powers piece on acrylic, original work from Kill Pixie and Blu plus a fantastic collection of work from the prolific […]

Openings: Antony Micallef – “Becoming Animal” @ Lazarides

It’s not that often that you feel completely blown away when you walk into a gallery, but that was the feeling AM experienced when we first walked into Lazarides (Rathbone Place) at the opening of Antony Micallef’s epic solo show, “Becoming Animal.” We’d been anticipating this show since well before we interviewed Antony (read that here) a couple of weeks back, and hearing him talk about his motivations behind the show only whet our appetite even more. He told us that this show was all about him […]

Publications / Book Launch: Street Artists – The Complete Guide @ Pure Evil Gallery

If you are anything like the guys at AM, then you love to read and collect art books… Street Art has been widely documented over the last 25 years, since Martha Cooper (interviewed) and Henry Chalfant’s (interviewed) now legendary “Subway Art” hit the shelves back in 1984. We recently heard that a new tome entitled “Street Artists: The Complete Guide” is going to be launched by Graffito Books at London’s Pure Evil Gallery on September 24th (from 6pm onwards). “Street Artists: The Complete Guide” is […]
