Releases: Josh Keyes Totem II Print – Haiti Benefit @ Tiny Showcase

Artists, galleries and publishers alike seem to be rallying to support the aid effort following the recent devastating earthquake in Haiti, and we at Arrested Motion applaud their valuable contributions. In this regard, we’ve just heard that Josh Keyes will be releasing such a fundraising print via Tiny Showcase. Totem II is a classic piece of Keyes imagery, and sure to be a crowd pleaser. The time-limited 8×10″ print will be available for one week, from Tuesday, January 26th at 7:30pm EST to Tuesday, February […]

Preview: Kevin Cyr & Jason Bryant – “Behind the Curtain” @ Raandesk Gallery

We’ve been following the work of Brooklyn artist Kevin Cyr for a little while now and we were excited to hear that he has a new body of work appearing at Raandesk Gallery of Art in New York. “Behind the Curtain” also features Jason Bryant, whom Cyr met whilst they were both working as assistants for Kehinde Wiley. Sounds like both artists will be producing large scale oil paintings for the show – Cyr’s on wooden panels and Bryant’s on canvas. Cyr’s mark making depicts […]

Dual Artist Interview: Hush x Dan Baldwin Collaboration Show @ Zero Cool Gallery

Our friends at Zero Cool gallery will be opening a new group show entitled “Don’t believe the Type” tonight in London that will feature four large scale collaboration paintings by Hush (interviewed) and Dan Baldwin (interviewed). The artists have not worked together in the past, but when AM heard that they would be pooling talents, we thought that this could be something special. Each started work on two pieces and when they finished their elements, the paintings were traded over for the other’s work. You […]

Creative Process: Tristram Lansdowne

Just ahead of his solo show at LE Gallery entitled “Entropical Paradise” (previewed with studio visit), AM brings you a glimpse of how Tristram Lansdowne typically puts together one of his pieces. We asked Tristram if he would record some details of his artistic process for us – he did just that, and you can see the stages of one of his paintings coming together along with a some words from the artist after the jump.

Preview: Raymond Pettibon @ Sadie Coles HQ – London

Influential American artist, Raymond Pettibon will be opening a exhibition tonight in London at Sadie Coles HQ. Definitely take time to attend this show if you are in the UK and also look for more coverage of Pettibon’s show coming up at World Class Boxing at this year’s Art Basel Miami. Another image after the jump…

Studio Visits / Preview: Tristram Lansdowne @ LE Gallery, Toronto

AM got hooked on Tristram Lansdowne’s urban landscape paintings when we saw his work featured earlier this year at Joshua Liner Gallery’s summer group show (covered), so we tried to find out as much as we could about this exciting young artist. Lansdowne has a solo show entitled “Entropical Paradise” opening on 27th November at Toronto’s LE Gallery. Judging from the work we’ve seen in progress here, this show looks like one to catch if you can. Based in Toronto, Tristram’s watercoloured architectural representations depict […]

Streets (and Pool): D*Face in LA

D*Face (interviewed) has just returned back from his two week trip to LA where he made and released his “UnAmerican Graffiti” print, but we knew that he was going to be hitting a few spots whilst in town – and here are the results. The street pieces D painted included the quirky use of Spiderman in a “LA (is for Anarchy)” mural and the stenciling of a 1950’s pool in San Bernardino known as the “Ridiculous Pool.” Read on for more exclusive photographs and a video […]

Showing: Lava Collective “Cityscape” Group Show @ Dray Walk Gallery London

AM happened upon this good looking pop-up show at the Dray Walk Gallery in London’s Truman Brewery complex this week organised by the freshly formed Lava Collective. Lava brought over Brooklyn residents Peru Ana Ana Peru for their first showing of work in the UK, and their installation dominated the huge space. Peru Ana Ana Peru had just opened a show at Brooklynite Gallery a couple of weeks back (covered here), and we felt their use of audio and visual media as part of the […]

Preview: Logan Hicks / C215 – Parallel Universe @ Show and Tell Gallery

We last saw  Logan Hicks’ (interviewed) and C215’s work together in a gallery just last week in London at the Green Day art show at StolenSpace (covered), which Logan curated and featured C215’s work. Next stop on the world tour sees the two stencil artists together for a joint show at Toronto’s Show & Tell Gallery. Whilst using similar techniques and output mediums, the two artists’ subjects are worlds apart – Logan is renowned for his urban landscape based work, whilst Christian is best known […]
