Viewpoints: A Reading of Boris Hoppek’s Obama Beach Ball

The following article is a guest post by friend of AM, Peter Bengtsen. He wrote this essay for us after seeing the release of Boris Hoppek’s Obama Beach Ball, the resultant opinions that have been broadcast on the internet in response to the artwork, and the political motivations of the artist himself. We hope you enjoy the article, and that it may bring some clarity both to Hoppek’s project, and a context to this work as part of the artist’s output. Make up your own […]

This neat little project from Geoff McFetridge, whose work we last ogled at in his solo show in Copenhagen, was brought to our attention recently. Urban Outfitters – $10 Balloon Dog Figure

Looks like Urban Outfitters is at it again.  This time, they are selling a very familiar looking dog figure that looks like one originally created by one of the biggest names in contemporary art.  Neither are strangers to lawsuits, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out.  In the meantime, unless you have an eight-figure art budget, this may be the most affordable way to get one of these shiny pups into your house – but you may want to hurry.  No […]

Baby Tattooville ’11: Goodie Bag

We still have a couple more things to cover before we close the book on this year’s Baby Tattooville. One of these is the much anticipated “goodie bag” that attendees to the annual art retreat receive at the end of the weekend. Besides the sweet Diesel Fuel print set and reproduction of the Art Jam painting, a collection of other limited editions, drawings, and art paraphernalia was given away just before the trip home. More detailed photos after the jump by Carlos Gonzalez.

Releases: KAWS – “Joe Kaws” Vinyl Figure

Since the Dissected Milo set was released back in February, KAWS hasn’t released anything on the vinyl toy front, undoubtedly due to focusing on his fine art and recent solo Hold the Line. That will all change next week with the release of his Peanuts homage to Snoopy, aptly dubbed Joe KAWS. The figure, who’s release was effectively set in stone over a year ago with the release of an OriginalFake x Peanuts Joe KAWS t-shirt collaboration to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Charles Schulz […]
