On Thursday night, AM attended Ron English’s (featured) latest exhibit entitled English 101 at the Post No Bills Gallery. The exhibit featured limited edition prints, hand finished multiples, toys and other artwork that displayed the artist’s unique design and sense of humor. Baby Tattooville ’11: Secret Store

One of the highlights of the art retreat known as Baby Tattooville is the special pop-up store that is set up each year. Filled with unique prints, toys, art products, and original art from participating artists, the “Secret Store” is a good opportunity for fans to stock up on their favorite artist swag. Tauba Auerbach Keynote Speaker @ The NY Art Book Fair (Queens)

The NY Art Book Fair is set to kick off tomorrow, September 30th running through October 3rd. Generously organized again by non-profit Printed Matter, the sixth iteration of the free and open to the public event will see more than 200 exhibitors, cementing itself as the world’s premier event for artists’ books, contemporary art catalogs and monographs, art periodicals, and artist zines. Still showing through the rest of the week until the 24th is the FriendsWithYou exhibition in Paris. In The Beginning at colette features the Miami design collective’s bronze sculptures, series of prints including two exclusive to the store, an animation video piece, wall murals, as well as a plethora of art products. FWY also designed the storefront and the “water bar” space of the gallery, all based on the theme of expressing the inner-child inside all of us. More photos after the jump…

Releases: Andy Warhol x Incase (Part II)

Incase, who released a series of products featuring Andy Warhol imagery back in April has apparently moved on to phase II. The new collection will add on more protective casings and bags options featuring new images that showcase the pop artist’s versatility with a variety of media including silkscreening (Elvis, Advertisements), film (Empire) and hand-drawing (Telephone, Do It Yourself Flowers). Releases: Tauba Auerbach x Paulson Bott Press – “Etchings”

Rising star artist Tauba Auerbach has been working hard with the master printers at Paulson Bott Press to create five amazing new editions, which are scheduled to be released today. For these prints, Auerbach re-conceptualized the etching process of print-making, which basically entails an image being drawn onto a copper plate and then etched into the metal using acid. For Plate Distortions I, II and III, instead of drawing, Auerbach folded pieces of copper foil and then used those as the basis of the prints. […]

Openings: James Jean REBUS Release & Signing @ LACMA

This past weekend, LACMA celebrated the release of the book, REBUS, by artist James Jean’s (featured). The event began with a discussion in which the LA-based artist went on to explain his background and career as an artist and Giant Robot founder Eric Nakamura (interviewed) was also on hand to expand on James’ work over the years as well as their shared histories. In case you missed the last batch of James Jean x OVM scarves, which sold out earlier this Spring, there may be hope for you yet. Tomorrow, the next design Escape will go on sale on the OVM site. You may remember the original artwork from his Art HK booth with Martha Otero back in May. As with the previous release, this hand-rolled silk scarf is very limited with only 75 produced. Finally after years of hoping and wanting, we got an Anish Kapoor dish… coffee cup and dish that is. Italian Coffee maker illy has commissioned the famous Indian artist to design this year’s artist cup for their prestigious Art Collection which has seen collaborations with some of art’s most celebrated artists such as Jeff Koons, Louise Bourgeois and Robert Rauschenberg. Releases: Phlegm – “Illuminated Alphabet” Book

The newest zine that Phlegm had been hard at work at (first mentioned here) has finally been made available and what a beauty it is. The postcard size book is completely handmade and painstakingly silk-screened as each letter is illustrated in the UK-based street artist’s signature imagery. The edition size is 300 and priced shipped to UK addresses for £10 and anywhere outside the UK fro £11.50 (with a simple version slightly cheaper). More images after the jump…
