With the quiet summer art season in full effect, the list of recommended shows is shorter than usual but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any quality shows. For example, take a look at the possible crazy installs coming up for David Choong Lee as he gets ready for his show at LeBasse Projects this weekend. Remember when we mentioned that Yoshitomo Nara will be unveiling a pair of statues on the Upper East Side and his retrospective at the Asia Society? Well even better news – a special book boxed set will be released on September 1st to go along with this opening of “Nobody’s Fool”. Teaser: Brendan Monroe – “Figments” @ Galerie L.J.

Time flies. It has almost been a year since Brendan Monroe’s (interviewed) solo show at Richard Heller Gallery. In the meantime, he’s relocated to Sweden where he currently lives and works. His newest body of work entitled “Figments” will feature a collection of organic paintings and sculptures all done in his signature palette. If you haven’t signed up yet for a free subscription to The Art Street Journal, what are you waiting for? There aren’t that many publications out there, especially stateside, that focuses on this type of art. Also, this Saturday, August 7th (7-9pm), there will be release party at Carmichael Gallery for the newest edition (Vol II, Issue I), an expanded format featuring more color, pages, and articles including interviews with Boogie and Escif.

AM attended the opening of James “Dalek” Marshall’s (interviewed) latest show, “Chaos On The Edge Of Reason”, at the Hurley Space. The unique twist to this show was the interactive opportunity for fans to “compose” their own piece of Dalek art. Sold at $200 dollars a square feet, fans selected from either a 2×2, 3×3 or 4×4 feet section from the massive 37 foot canvas mural (previewed).
