Continuing with our coverage of Basel Week Miami, AMÂ wanted to highlight another tantalizing find from the Scope/Art Asia fair: Wang Zhi Jie Wang Zhi Jie is a contemporary artist from China that wields a skillful brush and conjures up some very sexy and appealing imagery. He specializes in drawing “innocent girls” conducting what are perceived to be provocative actions. AMÂ has brought a little holiday cheer straight from Europe.Â Continuing with our coverage of Takashi Murakami’s show at theÂ Museum fÃ¼r Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt, Germany (previewed here), we took some pictures of the amazing retrospectiveÂ for the founder of the “superflat” art movement. We’ve all heard the whispers about the troubled economy this year and how it may affect the art community. At Basel Week Miami this year, we saw first hand the rippling effects of the economic downturn on many of the galleries exhibiting. Last night marked the opening of Yoshitomo Nara’s solo show at Blum & Poe (previewed and teased). The show features a large scale sculptural installation, and a new series of paintings and drawings focusing on Nara’s signature pastel-hued girls. At the center of the exhibition was a prairie-style wagon installation by YNG, a collaboration between Yoshitomo Nara and Japanese design firm Graf.
