Baby Tattooville Day 2: Riverside Art Museum

After an afternoon of artists alternating between sketching for attendees or working on the collaborative “Art Jam” piece, everyone headed down for the “Beyond Baby Tattooville” show at the Riverside Art Museum. We had previously previewed the show, but there was a new additional piece from each featured artist for sale at this exhibition. The session right before lunch was a panel of three artists: Dave Cooper, Brandi Milne, and Ana Bagayan. Dave did drawings of one of his famous luscious, lavacious, and occasionally obese women. Each attendee of the event was to receive one of these…there were inked drawings for sale too! (look for a future feature on these beautifully rendered drawings). Day 2 of Baby Tattooville kicked off with a presentation by Murphy Design and then moved on to a talk with Bob Dob and Joe Ledbetter about the process of art toy making. After coming back from Jeff Soto’s studio after dinner. The attendees and the artists came back to the resort and got a very special treat. An authenticÂ “life drawing” session was awaiting… not only forÂ the participants, but also for the artists to experience. This session took us back to an art school 101 tradition… study of the “natural”Â human form. Yes,Â a fully nude female to modelÂ and holdÂ seductiveÂ poses for 20 mins at a time. Baby Tattooville started off with an introduction panel of participating artists as well as passing out of some items to participants. One of these was a limited print by Shag that doubled as a name tag. After the introduction we were instructed to make a mark on a canvas with a charcoal marker which Michael Whelan will convert into a work of art over the weekend.Â Now we are off to Jeff Soto’s dinner for the “Art Jam” as well as dinner…Â More to follow. Openings: Art For Hope @ Merry Karnowsky

The “Art For Hope” benefit (previously mentioned) took place at Merry Karnowsky Gallery last night. This was a special “one night only” group show to raise funds for the Obama campaign. Although this event was not planned very far in advance, everything came together nicely. Tim Biskup‘s new solo exhibition “O/S (Operating System)” opens at Addict Galerie (Paris) on October 11th. The exhibition features 12 new paintings that are sold with an elaborate pedestal that can be assembled upon delivery using parts that come inside the shipping crate as well as the crate itself.
