Releases: ESPO “Superfeen” print

We just came across Stephen Powers aka ESPO’s updated website, First and Fifteenth, this morning and saw that there is a host of back catalog goodness available, such as this ‘Superfeen‘ screenprint on plastic from 2002. They come from an edition of 300, but we assumed they were long sold out. Grab one now, as it looks as ESPO is signing each one with a punchline to the storyboard and a hand drawn image of everyone’s favorite weakest super-hero. The wonderful ‘Handy Signs’ print is […]

Openings: El Mac & Damon Soule – “The Humble and Sublime” & “Tessellating Pigments” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

We are a little late with this but we stopped by the Joshua Liner Gallery a couple weeks ago to check out the joint show from Mac and Damon Soule. You may remember the pictures we posted of the street piece Mac gifted New York with while he was in town, but equally impressive were the large paintings he bought for the galllery entitled “The Humble and Sublime”, all inspired by the people he encounters on his travels. Not only does his signature patterned technique […]

Releases: Jeff Soto – “The Seeker” Print

One of our favorite images from Jeff Soto’s (featured) show (covered) last June at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery, “The Seeker” has is being released as a print.  The painting depicts one of the art toys that Jeff released recently at SDCC, and would make a nice companion piece for any collector out there. The print is a 23.5″ x 36″ offset lithograph (edition of 450), and will be offered for $75, but apparently, there is a 15% discount applied to all pre-orders currently.  You can […]

Teasers: Takashi Murakami @ Gagosian (Rome)

It seems that many great artists we know are in a constant state of work and improvement when it comes to their craft. After a exhibition at the Chateau de Versailles in France, it appears that Superflat master Takashi Murakami is already diving deep into work (shirt off of course) in preparation for his November 13th show at the Gagosian in Rome. This “red mutation” of his Dragon in Clouds is looking most psychedelic! Image via Contemporary Standard. Discuss Murakami here

Studio Visits / Preview: Faile – “Bedtime Stories” @ Perry Rubenstein Gallery Part 1

2010 looked to be a light year for the Brooklyn collective known as Faile (featured). Initially it was just a simple show at a “little gallery” known as Gagosian. Then in Feburary, a hand crafted arcade experience popped up in London. By Spring they created a new arcade show in NYC. Summer brought them to PortugalArte ‘10 where they installed an iconic “temple” in vintage Faile fashion. Between all that, they somehow found time to put together a book and hold a popup shop in the […]

Preview: Ryan McGinley – “Life Adjustment Center” @ Ratio 3

In a continuation of the two themes displayed at London’s Frieze Art Fair (covered) this month, Ryan McGinley is set to reveal his newest collection of luminous photographs with Ratio 3, his second solo endeavor with the San Francisco gallery. Opening this Friday, Life Adjustment Center (teased) will juxtapose two distinctly disparate, yet immediately recognizable bodies of work. Continue after the jump.

Previews: Will Barras – “Bad Reception” @ Stolenspace

AM has been keeping an eye on artist Will Barras for some time now and we’re excited to see he has an upcoming show entitled “Bad Reception” at London’s StolenSpace. Will’s use of fluid motion in combination with urban techniques create striking works that blur the line between the abstract and the real. This solo show has contains some large scale pieces that we are looking forward to seeing. The show formally opens Thursday, Oct 28th – go check it out if you’re in London. See […]

Tour of Jeffrey Deitch’s Los Angeles Home

MOCA Director Jeffrey Deitch takes us on a tour of his Los Feliz home, once owned by Cary Grant.  Like any true art lover, he’s moved his collection in ahead of the furniture.  Check out the Warhol, Noble and Webster, and Aaron Young Jesus hanging above his bed.  The influential former gallery owner shares his thoughts on living in LA, Hollywood/celebrity culture, and how being famous itself is an art form.  Welcome to town, Mr. Deitch.  We are pleased to have you here.
