Recap: Meggs – “Paving Paradise” @ LA Municipal Art Center

LA-based artist David “Meggs” Hooke recently presented his newest body of work at the Thinkspace Gallery organized Beyond Eden event (covered) at the LA Municipal Art Gallery. We already showed you a focused look at Mear One’s work, but now we have a closer review of Megg’s Paving Paradise, which centered on the recurring theme of duality in his work. Stepping away from comic book characters and skull imagery, the Australian-born artist’s new paintings reference the duality of human relationships with the natural environment against the their interaction with the man-made, constructed environment. Showing: Saner – “Fragments of The Soul” @ Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens

Philadephia’s Magic Gardens’ galleries are currently hosting a show/installation by Edgar “Saner” Flores. For Fragments of The Soul, the artist transformed the spaces into his mythological playground, heavily influenced by Mexican culture and tradition. By creating site-specific murals, illustrations, video projections, and paintings created on salvaged material found locally, the idea of the exhibition is to explore what we have left behind in life and to expose the small, secret parts of our souls. Saner is a versatile artist equally active and confident with drawings, illustration, paintings and murals which is noticeable in this […]

Streets: Evoca1 (Vienna)

Dominican artist Evoca1 was recently invited to Austrian capital by Inoperable Gallery to create one of his murals. After about a week of painting, the artist recently finished a beautiful piece titled Imperishable Relics that has his signature feel of classic painting to it. Working on a large building in Vienna, the piece comments on a series of flak towers that Hitler ordered to be constructed in Germany and Austria to defend against air attacks and serve as shelters back in the 1940s. These buildings are still […]

Streets: Brusk / Art Rua (Rio de Janeiro)

Turns out, a member of the Da Mental Vaporz crew was also in town painting a much larger 25m high mural entitled You’ll Sweat Blood And Water. Created over four days by Brusk, the impressive wall featured a disintegrating fire extinguisher made up of graffiti letterforms. Take a look at more photos below… Discuss Da Mental Vaporz here.
