Fame Fest ’10: Slinkachu

Probably one of the last artists (see other artists here) to stop by Grottaglie before the Fame Festival opening next weekend is street miniature photographer Slinkachu. The London-based artist worked his magic with his street installations in the Italian town that would probably go unnoticed if you didn’t know where to look. Fortunately, he documents and photographs his clever works for all to enjoy. More pics after the jump…

Openings: Faile Book Launch & Show @ LES Pop-Up in NYC

On Thursday, AM braved the stormy streets of New York to attend the launch event at Faile’s pop-up gallery where the Brooklyn duo kicked off the release of their soon-to-be bestseller “Prints + Originals 1999–2009” (previewed). Published by Gestalten, this hefty book gives us an inside look at the bread and butter behind Faile’s rise to prominence – the prints and their unique silkscreening/collaging techniques. Also, the Patricks have made multiple variants of the book. From hand signed “studio editions” to limited silk-screened versions (5 different covers front and back in editions […]

With the art season off to a great start so far, the quality shows keep coming this weekend. Los Angeles will be the place to be this weekend with solos from Herakut (interviewed) and Mark Dean Veca (featured) leading the way. Installation: Filthy Luker in Quito, Equador

You may have seen our recent coverage of D*Face’s outdoor activities in Quito, Equador as part of the ‘9no Festival de Arte en la Calle’, and as a natural follow-up, AM now takes a look at some images that UK Urban Interventionist Filthy Luker sent us from Quito. Luker’s huge inflatable sculptures are often seen as culture jamming on a grand scale, and some of these familiar forms look stunning set against the South American backdrop. Imagine the public buildings around the town square being […]

Update: Hush

It looks like the newly married Hush (interviewed) is hard at work on a new body of work for presumably an upcoming show. “Distant Portraits” will series of large paintings looks to be a continuation of his more mature and realism centered work which started with his show in SF last May. More after the jump…

Streets: Nick Walker’s “Cardinal Sinister” in London

It looks like Bristol stencilist Nick Walker (interviewed) was up at the crack of dawn this morning to hit up a prominent spot in London outside the Royal College of Art / Royal Albert Hall with this piece entitled “Cardinal Sinister”. Walker is bang on topic with his rendition of Pope Benedict XVI stoking a white cat à la Bond villain Blofeld, who’s arrival in the apparently “third world” UK this week has sparked tension in some and indifference in others. Britain may largely be […]

“Art in the Streets” Exhibition @ MOCA Confirmed by Deitch

Ever since the Deitch appointment at MOCA was announced, it was a question of not if, but when a major street art exhibition was coming to Los Angeles. Well, yesterday, Jeffrey Deitch confirms that indeed, come 2011, “the first major museum survey of the history of graffiti and street art presented in the United States” will be opening it’s doors to the public. With curatorial help from Aaron Rose, Roger Gastman and Fab 5 Freddy, works from more than a hundred street artists, including Banksy, […]

Nuart ’10: Vhils & More

It’s time for another update from Stavenger, site of the Nuart Festival. Looks like Vhils is in town now chiseling away at another masterpiece. We had only recently enjoyed his work at the fantastic Eurotrash show and the Viva La Revolucion exhibit so if you have not seen the textures of his work in person, you are missing out. Take a look at the completed M-City piece and a faraway look at the Ericailcane piece after the jump…

Openings: 10 Years of Fecal Face @ The Luggage Store

Last Friday, San Francisco celebrated an amazing ten year run for Fecal Face, source of all art in the Bay Area. The ten year anniversary show held at The Luggage Store included many of the artists that have been featured on their website of which AM’s readers are sure to be familiar with as well. Take a look at all the great pieces in the show after the jump (including this Mars-1 piece seen above)…

Streets: New Banksy x 3

Some new pieces from Banksy recently popped up on Wooster Collective yesterday at undisclosed locations although somewhere in the UK is a pretty good bet. Playing on some pretty classic themes we have come to expect from Mr. B, these street pieces with presumably no strings attached remind us of why we love the elusive street artist. More after the jump…
