Sotheby’s Contemporary Evening and Day Art Auctions

Christie’s and Phillips de Pury have proven to have strong works available at their forthcoming auctions (check out our previews here and here). AM now examines Sotheby’s Contemporary Evening and Day Art Sales (February 10 – 11), which contain great pieces by some of our favorite artists, such as Feng Zhengjie, Yoshitomo Nara and Andy Warhol (above). We are happy to report that several of our favorite lots, included those by Frank Auerbach, Lucio Fontana and Andy Warhol, performed well, either within or above estimate, in the evening sale […]

Installation / Preview: The Faile & Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade @ Lazarides

Lazarides seems to be kicking off 2010 in style with not one, but two shows featuring Faile (see our recent studio visit here) opening in London this week. We gave you some news on the shows a little while back, and we’ve been counting the days in the run up to this week. Greek Street – the old location of the gallery, and now commonly known as the Lazarides shop – will be hosting ‘”The Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade”, where Faile are teaming up […]

Openings: Jef Aerosol – “All Shook Up” @ Ad Hoc Art

Old school French stencil artist, Jef Aerosol, opened his show in New York last week at Eastern District in association with Ad Hoc Art. “All Shook Up” featured classic pieces from the street artist, as well new pieces of cultural icons like Jay-Z and Basquiat – of course all emphasized with his ubiquitous red arrows. See all the pics after the jump…

Openings: David Choe – “Character Assassination” @ Fifty24SF

David Choe opened his latest show, “Character Assassination” last Thursday night at FIFTY24SF. Choe, who has deep ties with both the Bay Area, as well as the Upper Playground family, brought an incredibly large turnout for his long awaited SF return. The reason attendees waited for upwards of thirty minutes to check out the show? Mostly because it was awesome! David came with enough artwork to fill two galleries, giving fans a chance to check out almost every limited edition print he’s ever done as […]

Interviews: LUDO

We recently caught up with LUDO, a Parisian street artist we told you about last year, for an interview session to learn more about him and his work. We talked a little about his recent series of street pieces entitled “Nature’s Revenge,” his background and techniques, and some exciting news about his first solo show – all this and more after the jump…

Teaser: KAWS @ Galería Javier López

A pretty big show that seems to have been flying under the radar is KAWS’ upcoming show this month in Spain. Galería Javier López will be paying host to a new body of work from the New York-based street turned contemporary artist with the opening set for February 17th. It’s been almost a year since his solo at Honor Fraser and we’re sure that we aren’t the only ones fiendin’ for their KAWS fix. Discuss KAWS here.

Openings: Roa @ Galerie Itinerrance

As mentioned earlier this week, street artist Roa has brought his outside work indoors for his show in Paris at Galerie Itinerrance. We were wondering if the scale of the Belgium-based artist would translate well in a gallery setting, but it seems with plenty of large murals, he has answered with a resounding “Yes!” Looks like he has also preserved some of the nuances of his work that has generated the most favor with his fan base like the peeks at the inner anatomy of […]

Preview: Miss Van – “She-Wolves” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery (Los Angeles)

The last time we heard from French street artist Miss Van, she was opening her retrospective show at StolenSpace in London in October of ’09. Fans on this side of the pond will be happy to hear that they will have a chance to see her seductive “poupes” in person as she will be opening “She-Wolves” this Saturday night at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. For this body of work, her feminine “dolls” reflect on their predatory nature and and surrender to their animal […]
