Openings: “Better Habits” @ Athen B. Gallery

Downtown Oakland was in for a treat last Saturday night. Local artist Lauren Napolitano teamed up with UK’s David Bray and Word To Mother to collaborate on a group exhibition called Better Habits at Athen B. Upcoming: James Bullough – “Breaking Point” @ Thinkspace Gallery

On May 28th, James Bullough will be unveiling new works for his solo at Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City. Showing: DMV @ Villa Alliv (Marseille)

After a two week residency at Villa Alliv, JAW, BLO and KAN of the Da Mental Vaporz crew (DMV) are showing their collaborative artworks. The three artists have invaded the space with canvasses as well extending their imagery to the walls and ceilings, blending their own distinctive style from abstract and impulsive to pointillism and precision with the results being  vibrant and energetic compositions. Streets: Colin van der Sluijs (Chicago)

While in town for his show at Vertical Gallery, Colin van der Sluijs painted a large mural in Chicago’s south loop. The nine-story wall (1006 S Michigan Avenue) features a yellow-headed blackbird (now no longer in the area) & red-headed woodpecker (in need of conservation) amongst bursting foliage and is part of the Wabash Arts Corridor. The Dutch artist’s debut USA solo exhibition Luctor Et Emerge will be on view through May 28. Via Colossal. Discuss Colin van der Sluijs here.

After a first look at the latest Igloo Hong funded project from David Choe (featured) in Morocco, we now have some more photos to share with you from the the trip. Granted creative freedom, El Mac, Andrew Hem, Mars-1, Aaron Horkey, and DVS-1 all did their best work getting up on whatever walls they could find, whether it be solo or with a collaborative effort. Dave Kinsey Studio Sale

Every once in a while, an artist will put on a studio sale to give fans a chance to add prints, originals, and other related paraphernalia at a reasonable price. This weekend, it was Dave Kinsey’s turn to offer up some items for in a fires sale ranging from pieces canvas and paper. Previews: “El Mac: Aerosol Exalted” @ Mesa Arts Center

After showing at the Colorado Springs Fine Art Center (covered), El Mac: Aerosol Exalted will be moving to the Main Gallery of the Mesa Arts Center where it will open for public on May 13th. For a recent mural in Manhattan, D*Face (interviewed) decided to go with one of his iconic Lichtenstein-inspired women holding two of his signature D-dogs.
