Streets: Blu in Milan

Looks like Italian street artist Blu has struck again, this time in Milan. It was only just recently that we saw him working in Grottaglie (here, here, and here) on his part for the FAME Festival this year. He apparently also had time to get this huge mural up giving bicylists a little chance for payback as you see them crush cars in their path. More images after the jump.

Highlights: Recommended Openings For September 3-9

September is here and with it comes the kickoff of the new art season. Expect a TON of amazing shows throughout the month as everyone gears back up for the fall season and the fairs coming up this December in Miami. Leading the charge is the return to San Francisco for The Date Farmers with their show “Strange Fruit” (teased). Carlos Ramirez and Armando Lerma attribute their paintings, collages and three-dimensional pieces to inspiration gained from their Mexican-American traditional values and contemporary West-coast culture and look to […]

Streets/Video: El Mac – “Faces of Life” @ Fifty24SF

Besides working on the body of work for his solo show at Fifty24SF (covered), El Mac also took time to throw up some street pieces around SF. Here are some videos documenting some of the process for those who are interested. Part II and Part III after the jump…

Second Helpings: August 2009

Summer makes way for the Fall as August comes to a close. It was month packed with juicy stories for our readers. Just to make sure you don’t miss anything, AM brings you another edition of Second Helpings. Get served after the jump.

Studio Visits/Teaser: Judith Supine @ New Image Art

The last time AM got a look inside the studio of street artist Judith Supine (seen on streets), there was a lot of work in the early stages of development – loose bits of magazine cut-outs and collages that hadn’t yet received the special touch of color Supine executes so well. Thanks to Dante Ross, we get another peek at some of the pieces he’s working on for his solo show at New Image Art, which is slated for early November. In addition to some of his more […]

Studio Visits: Buff Monster

AM recently visited the studio of Buff Monster as he prepares for his solo show at Corey Helford Gallery opening next month. Buff will be unleashing 20 new works for his new solo show and we’re lucky enough to be able to debut a few of them, along with some great process shots from his studio that show off his time consuming and meticulous process. Much of his work begins as an Illustrator file on his computer before being printed out on paper which he […]

Highlights: Recommended Openings For August 27 – September 2

This Saturday’s massive “Sea No Evil”‘ charity art auction (previewed) benefits the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. For the uninitiated, the Sea Shepard Conservation Society has spent the past three decades protecting and preserving the world’s ocean life. The auction takes place at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium (near the Mission Inn). Notable contributors include Shepard Fairey, Dave Kinsey, Anthony Lister, Dave Cooper, Jeff Soto, Greg Simkins, Glen E. Friedman, Gregory Euclide, Logan Hicks, Mars-1 and Tim Biskup. Though a drive for us living in Los Angeles, this is […]

Streets: New Banksy – “Roller Zorro”

No official word from the Banksy camp yet, but some signs point to a new stencil from Mr. B up near the A40 (looks to be on top of the Great Western Studios building) featuring a Zorro figure holding a roller and the words “Live Fast Drive Slow” on the other side of the building. With so many fakes and copycats out there these days, one must be careful identifying alleged pieces. But, the size of the piece as well as the fact the this […]

Streets: Judith Supine x Williamsburg Bridge

A proper street artist requires good concepts, placement skills, and cojones (or the female equivalent). Judith Supine once again proves a master of all three especially in the latter set. Check out this mind-bending piece that Supine placed on top of the Willamsburg Bridge! More pics after the jump…

Art Focus: David MacDowell – “Appetite For Veruca”

After witnessing David MacDowell’s wit and humor as well his acrylic skills firsthand at Thinkspace a short while back, we fast became fans of his work. But, his ballsy take on Robert Williams‘ classic “Appetite For Destruction” at the Crazy4Cult 3D show really blew our mind. Notice the seamless blending of the world of Willy Wonka with arguably one of the most famous paintings of lowbrow art culture. See Williams’ original painting after the jump as well as hear in MacDowell’s own words how he […]
