Studio Visits: Casey Gray – ‘Of Land & Sea’ @ Circuit 12 Contemporary

We’ve been enthusiastically watching the work of Casey Gray over a number of years, since we first came across his work back in 2009 during Basel Week in Miami. To say his work has progressed since his early stencil compositions is an understatement. Using aerosol paint as his one and only medium, Gray has shifted from the multicoloured stencil explosions we first saw from him through to a level of maturity we’ve not seen elsewhere from a stencil artist. Recent beach portraits and landscapes along with […]

Streets: Os Gemeos (Vancouver) – Final

After roughly three weeks of intense work, Os Gemeos recently finished their new mural for the Vancouver Biennale (Part I, Part II). The six large silos they painted on Granville Island continues their ongoing series of large murals titled Giants, and is now officially their biggest one to date. Covering the entire 70-foot (21 metre) tall structure, this incredible piece of work is their contribution to Biennale’s strong connection with sculpture. For this non-profit public art project, Octavio and Gustavo Pandolfo have donated a month of their time, right after opening their recent solo […]

This is just the start for the project in one of the larger Danish cities as the plan […]

Streets: Kamea Hadar x Defer (San Francisco)

If you remember, we had the recently chance to share some photos with you of Kamea Hadar and Defer prepping for their recently concluded showing at 1AM Gallery in San Francisco. While in the Bay Area, the two Hawaii-based artists and friends took the opportunity to get up around the city with a couple murals. Mirroring their work for the gallery as well as their collaboration for POW! WOW! Hawaii earlier this year (covered), the walls were painted with the distinctive combination of Hadar’s figurative work […]

Streets: Shepard Fairey (New York)

Last week, Shepard Fairey (featured) visited New York City to show a little love for his fans in the Big Apple. Mr. Obey and his posse worked on a massive six story mural on Bowery just off of Broome as he took advantage of the Manhattan skyline with the help of the L.I.S.A. project. Entitled We Own The Future, this fresh creation took over three days to finish and we stopped by to document the process from beginning to end. Discuss Shepard Fairey here. Streets: Faith47 – “The Preciousness of the Hunt” (Los Angeles)

Earlier this week, South African artist Faith47 made an appearance in Los Angeles where she painted a large-scale mural entitled The Preciousness of the Hunt. Arranged by the Do Art Foundation, the ethereal new piece in the South Park community of downtown LA on the Flower Street Lofts residential building (12th & South Flower Street) features swans, beautiful creatures that appear often in her work. Faith47’s imagery is a welcome addition to the revitalized area and speaks to the positive future for the area, especially with more […]

Streets: Brendan Monroe x Souther Salazar @ FFTT (Portland)

Last week, Brendan Monroe (interviewed) and Souther Salazar were able to complete their joint mural in Portland for Forest For The Trees (FFTT). The artists were invited to join the not-for-profit the public mural project, which also featured eighteen other local and international artists. Over the course of several days, Salazar painted clusters of his whimsical imagery against Monroe’s Tron-like structured background that hints at trees. Resulting in a striking collaborative wall, their hard work can be seen at 4703 N Albina Avenue. Discuss Brendan Monroe […]

Streets: DALeast (New York)

Out on the Lower East Side of New York, a new mural has taken form after some hard work by Chinese artist DALeast (interviewed). Featuring a beautiful image of a bird in flight (similar to a piece he painted in Hawaii last year), the wall painted with the South Africa-based artist’s signature kinetic style is the initial volley leading up to his solo opening on September 4th at Jonathan LeVine Gallery (557C West 23rd St. location). It looks as though the new body of work […]
