Streets: Yayoi Kusama – New York (Part I)

Yayoi Kusama has a long and complicated relationship with NYC. It started in 1957 when she moved out to the Big Apple and set out to make a name in the world of art. Spanning three decades, Kusama stayed until 1973 when she returned to her home country of Japan. Now with her recent retrospective at The Whitney Museum in full swing, Kusama has set to reclaim the city which was her second home. The first project we want to share with you is set up […]

Streets: Outside Lands (Part I) – Skinner (San Francisco)

Not only did the Outside Lands festival in San Francisco feature a great lineup of musicians (Neil Young, Santigold, Stevie Wonder, Jack White, and more), a select group of artists were also invited in to paint some murals. For the 5th annual event, Juxtapoz invited in Skinner, Dabs Myla, Curve, Brett Amory, Chez, Apex, Marcos LaFarga, Pastime, Satyr, Diet, Sam Flores, Nate Van Dyke and Eos Montana to paint in and around the festival grounds. Our man on scene, Berlin Tomas, was able to capture Skinner at work […]

Streets: Phlegm for the 2012 Bloop Festival (Ibiza)

After a series of murals in New York, Phlegm continues his globe-trotting ways and head over to Sant Antoni de Portmany, Ibiza for the Bloop Festival (see last year). The new piece on the side of a building has an Escher-esque feel to it, but re-imagined with UK-based street painter’s characters and style. Also scheduled to make an appearance at the event are Interesni Kazki, Boris Hoppek, Btoy, Olek, Malarky, and more. Discuss Phlegm here.

Streets: Wall Therapy Festival (Part III) – Recap

After sharing you photos of South Africa – based couple DALeast and Faith47’s murals (here & here) with you, we now have a round up of some of the rest of the action from the Wall Therapy Festival. Some of the other artists who were included in the first time event held in Rochester, New York were the brothers How & Nosm and their intricate work and signature palette, Case with a couple pieces including a tribute to the Kodak Girl, ROA with his stacked animals, another kinetic piece […]

Streets: Blu (Italy)

Italian street savant Blu, who recently reappeared in Spain for the Desordes Creativas Festival where he made vegetarians everywhere feel just as guilty as meat-lovers, has now returned to his native country for a mural. The new work in Sardinia shows a lab experiment being conducted by a pair of large green hands, a nod to the feeling in the region that Quirra Syndrome with an unusually high cancer rate is due to the military testing in the area. Discuss Blu here.

Streets: Komafest (Part IV) – Recap

After bringing you the works of Claudio Ethos, Vhils, and Conor Harrington from Komafest, all the way from Vardø, Norway, we now have a recap of some the other walls that we have not featured yet. Other artists like Steve “ESPO” Powers (seen above with his hilarious take on a common phrase), Husk Mit Navn, REMED, and ROA also visited the Norwegian island community and put up work. Streets: Walk & Talk Festival (Part I) – Vhils

After hitting up Komafest in Norway with new mural on a novel new medium – wood – Vhils has headed over to Azores, Portugal for the Walk & Talk Festival. This will be the second trip for the Lisbon-based street artist as he gifted the archipelago with several pieces last year if you remember. This time around, he made his mark on an abandoned tower  – you can’t get better placement than that. Look for more photos soon as Liqen, Mark Jenkins, Remed and more are still […]

Streets: JR – Williamsburg (New York)

Yesterday, street photograffeur JR (featured) spent the day creating a fresh mural in Brooklyn. The large building located at 338 Berry St. was in a prime spot overlooking the Williamsburg bridge and its oncoming traffic. Utilizing his signature photography and large-scale wheatpasted handiwork, the French artist made sure to give everyone in the area something to look at. JR invited AM to shoot he and his team as they scaled the eight story building in a monstrous cherry picker (aka. Boom Lift). It took hours to get […]
