A few weeks back, AM had a chance to visit with painter Jocelyn Duke in her Los Angeles studio. Coming off of back to back shows in Portland, Oregon (solo titled Brain Candy at the Sum Gallery and a group exhibition titled Wider than a Postcard at the Breeze Block Gallery), she was busy catching up on commissions and enjoying some time back home in the studio. The anticipation has been building in the art community on Faile’s upcoming exhibition at the Dallas Contemporary. The New York based duo of Patrick McNeil and Patrick Miller have been working non-stop since their incredible project with the New York City Ballet for this trip to Texas. Studio Visit / Preview: Nicola Verlato – “Pagan Pop” @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

On Saturday night, September 7th, the Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles will welcome back Nicola Verlato and his surreal paintings for another showing (see 2012). The new work is collectively entitled Pagan Pop, a reference to his contemporary take on late medieval narrative painting and the theme of how Western society has continually attempted to suppress its pagan roots. Earlier this year, AM got to visit Chris Valkov in his studio as he prepared for his upcoming solo exhibition entitled Schematical Sabbatical. The Portland based artist uses a highly stylised aesthetic in his work, using a variety of mediums all derived from his background as an architectural draughtsman. Brazilian artist Finok aka Raphael Sagarra recently let us have a peek inside his home & studio in Sao Paulo, to have a look at some new paintings he’s been working on recently. Portland based artist Zach Johnsen is busy preparing for his upcoming exhibition entitled The House of Uncommons. The body of work created for the show explores an alternate parliamentary governing system comprised of spirit figures existing outside the periphery of mankind. Each painting depicts a figure within this fantasy system of rules with its own unique title, identity and powers of legislation. AM recently had the pleasure to visit the studio of multi-disciplinary artist Jen Stark as she prepares for her debut solo show in Canada tonight (6-10 pm) with Cooper Cole in Toronto. A Look Inside Geoff McFetridge Studio

Geoff McFetridge, who recently showed during at Volta during Art Basel week and also completed a mural at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, looks like he has a nice space to work in. Printed Pages, the print publication of It’s Nice That, recently paid the Los Angeles-based multidisciplinary artist in his studio.
