As a followup to last year’s art competition (covered) put on by Jonathan LeVine Projects, the winners of the 2nd Annual Delusional Art Competition will have their works on display tonight at the New Jersey gallery. Between 8th of July and 9th of September 2018 a series of six individual exhibitions will be on view in Macao, organized as a part of the annual art exhibition program between China and the Portuguese-speaking countries. Titled Alter Ego, these showcases are curated by Portuguese artist Vhils (interviewed) and French gallery director, Pauline Foessel, two creatives with strong connections both with Hong Kong and China, as well as Portugal. This weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, some new figures designed by Joe Ledbetter will be on view at the DC booth. As part of DC Collectibles Artist’s Alley line, the 7″ figures take on the American artist’s signature vector-inspired aesthetic with each character imagined as the animal they are named after (Batman as a bat, Catwoman as a cat, Robin as a bird, and the Penguin as a penguin). Showing: KAWS – “HOLIDAY” Floating Companion @ Seokchon Lake (Seoul)

Judging from these photos, the long teased project from KAWS in Seoul has finally launched with his inflatable companion deployed in Seokchon Lake. Returning to Korea (see 2016) with a 92-foot-long (28 meters) floating HOLIDAY version of his signature character (and associated merch), the Brooklyn-based artist has harnessed the perfect relaxed vibe for this summertime installation. This piece is KAWS’ largest work to date and was masterminded by AllRightsReserved, follow in the footsteps of other similar installations like Florentijn Hofman’s giant floating duck in Hong Kong (covered). Last week, Lazinc in London opened a show featuring some of Banksy’s most iconic works (gleaned from private collections), focusing in on the 2002-2008 period of his career. Coinciding with some of the time Steve Lazarides spent as the elusive street artist’s photographer and gallerist, the work curated for the exhibition include stenciled canvases, unique paintings, sculptural pieces, limited-edition prints and more. POW! WOW! Long Beach finished up the public art for 2018 at the end of last month with another series of great murals and installations for fans of art in the Southern California city. Recently in New York, Haroshi (featured) unveiled a new series of works at Petzel Gallery (35 E 67th Street location) for Tokyo’s Nanzuka Gallery as part of the second New York edition of Condo, a gallery share program. Known for his sculptural use of skate decks as a medium, the Japanese artist had 29 new pieces on view alongside works from Makoto Taniguchi & Mori Masato. Arranged in a circle, the sold out cleverly conceived half kaiju half wood pieces made for a striking installation. Discuss Haroshi here.

Recap: Mark Jenkins – “BRD SHT” @ Lazinc

Just closing over the weekend in London, BRD SHT from Mark Jenkins (interviewed) filled Lazinc with clever sculptural works that mirror his public interventions. Although it’s still a couple months in the future, Daniel Arsham has been teasing his upcoming show opening on September 8th at Perrotin’s New York location with photos of a DeLorean reimagined with his “Future Archeology” motif in mind.
