Currently at Sprüth Magers, George Condo has a selection of new paintings and sculptures on display, his third solo exhibition in Berlin. The series of large-scale works are are the results of his ongoing reference to art history with the focus this time being Abstraction – i.e.: the lines of de Kooning, the forms and colors of Matisse, Tanguy and Klee, the all-over of Pollock, and Picasso. Last month, the Petaluma Art Center north of San Francisco opened up an exhibition entitled Cosmic Terrain, the brainchild of Mars-1, Damon Soule, and Oliver Vernon. Coming up this weekend on May 18th, the Martin-Gropius-Bau in Berlin will be opening a new show from Anish Kapoor, one the most influential sculptors of his generation. The exhibition, his first major one in the city, will feature about 70 works spanning his diverse range of mediums including stone, steel, glass, wax, PVC skins, and high-tech material. Remed & Okuda @ Campo Viejo (Spain)

Remed and Okuda recently got together for a joint project in Spain at the Campo Viejo vineyards. Along with a mural they worked on, the two Spanish artists also collaborated on several sculptures at the Logroño location including the sweet large scale piece seen above. Currently showing at the Stranger Factory in Albuquerque is a dual exhibition from Chet Zar (interviewed) and Doktor A entitled Oddfellows. Aptly named for the strange artistic vision, the joint show from the two features Zar’s grotesque and monstrous portraits painted in a nightmarish fashion that only he can do as well as the Dok’s steampunk mechanical creations put together by his deft hand. On May 9th, the Gagosian Gallery in New York (555 West 24th Street) will be presenting paintings and sculptures from contemporary art giant Jeff Koons.
