Openings: Art Basel (Switzerland)

There are numerous high quality art fairs occurring year round but the granddaddy of them all is Art Basel in Switzerland which opened its doors this week. Drawing some of the most prestigious galleries to exhibit a seemingly endless list of notable artists such as Kaws, Rob Pruitt, Will Cotton, Shepard Fairey, Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara and Jeff Elrod (just to name a very few), it’s no wonder that the wealthiest collectors and the hard-core art enthusiasts flock to Switzerland each year for a chance […]

Check out some more preview images below… Discuss this show here. Discuss Audrey Kawasaki here.

ADAA: Fred Tomaselli @ James Cohan Gallery

During this year’s ADAA Art Show one of the booths that caught our eye was James Cohan Gallery. Featuring works by Contemporary mainstay Fred Tomaselli, this booth focused on exhibiting twenty five pieces from his famous New York Times series. Utilizing the New York Times, Tomaselli collages a light and witty viewpoint with his signature vibrant colors and patterns. Check out this engaging show below.

With a strong tilt towards galleries based in the region, the fair boasted over 170 booths with a plethora of worthy art for collectors and fans to enjoy. Here are some of the highlights for us including a huge piece from Mr. (seen above), different versions of the new Murakami sculpts, a section dedicated to Yayoi Kusama sculptures, and much more. The […]

Frieze Week NYC ’12: NADA Fair

One of the art fairs that has hitched its wagon to Frieze is that of the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA). This year’s NADA fair moved to a new spacious location on Manhattan’s Lower East Side and presented a nice range of emerging and mid-career artists. Booths that caught our eye included LA’s M+B, showing Jessica Eaton (seen above) and Toronto’s Cooper Cole showing Georgia Dickie and Lauren Luloff. In addition, the Brooklyn Academy of Music unveiled a new limited edition portfolio featuring prints by such […]

Frieze returned to New York City this weekend, and again put on an top-notch art fair that challenges the dominance of The Armory Show. We visited the fair multiple times over the weekend, and will post about specific booths that caught our eye. But first, here’s a general overview of some of what we enjoyed from Frieze NYC 2013.

Armory Week ’13: Andrew Eldin Gallery – Tom Duncan: Dedicated to Coney Island

Every now and then, we come across art that brings out the childlike wonder which we often forget as adults. Dedicated to Coney Island (1984-2002), presented by Andrew Eldin Gallery is definitely that kind of art. Artist Tom Duncan took an incredible 18 years to complete this interactive wonder, which must have been stop and go to some degree, but nevertheless is definitely an accomplishment. And it certainly was a welcomed pit stop in a sea of art booths at this years Armory Show. Truly a pleasure to see such and […]

Armory Week ’13: Armory Show – First Look (Part II)

Continuing on our visual overview of this gigantic fair… Similar to previous years, this year’s Armory show took place over both Pier 92 and 94. Roughly, the former showcased a refined selection of art from the Modern period, while the latter hosted the much larger group of galleries displaying contemporary works. Regardless at which pier you started off, the cornucopia of blue chip works were enough to ensnare the most seasoned art fair attendee for hours on end. Check out part two of our first day […]
