Basel Week Miami ’13: Art Basel First Look (Part II)

The “main fair” as it is affectionately called by art lovers in Miami is of course the centerpiece of Art Basel Week. Not just prestigious by namesake or by the list of illustrious galleries, but more so the high level of art exhibited by the artists who want to put forward their best work. As always, it felte like there was so much blue-chip goodness, but so little time at Art Basel. From Kapoor (seen above), Colen, Martin, De Kooning, Chamberlain, Pruitt, Houseago, Creed, Auerbach, Kusama to Longo, just to […]

Basel Week Miami ’13: Martha Otero @ PULSE

As part of our survey of this year’s Art Basel Week in Miami, we already brought you some highlights from the PULSE art fair. It’s now time to focus in on some of the booths that caught our eye. The Los Angeles-based Martha Otero Gallery’s  booth was filled with some choice work by artists who readers of AM should be familiar with – Jen Stark (seen above), Tim Biskup, Eric White, James Jean, Mars-1, and more… Discuss Art Basel Week Miami here.

Basel Week Miami ’13: Art Miami & CONTEXT

As we continue our survey of Art Basel Week in Miami, we turn our eyes to Art Miami and its sister fair CONTEXT. The combined exhibition space of the two events featured over 190 galleries and covered over 200,000 square feet. Strolling through the booths, we found artist new and old that drew our attention. As with last year, there was the controversial display of un-authenticated work purported to be from Banksy presumably from his recent art residency in New York. Enjoy more of our photos below… Discuss Art […]

Basel Week Miami ’13: Pulse

One of the long-time satellite fairs we always check out during Art Basel Week in Miami is Pulse. As in previous years, the fair was held at The Ice Palace, just south of Wynwood, and consisted of a wide range of domestic and international galleries, including New Image Art, Martha Otero, Yancey Richardson and Mixed Greens. Visitors were greeted outside by installations by Tim Biskup (seen directly below and Brandon Vickerd, and when inside, they were treated to a dizzying array of intriguing contemporary works by young as […]

Basel Week Miami ’13: Miami Project

The Miami Project successfully launched its second rendition during Basel week with a well-curated selection of U.S. galleries, including such notable names as Yossi Milo, Joshua Liner, Mark Moore, Richard Heller and David B. Smith. Located in the Wynwood Arts District, the young art fair focused on primary representation of emerging and mid-career artists, which was a nice counterpoint to its much larger neighbor, Art Miami. Overall, Miami Project was well-attended, and both galleries and collectors seemed very enthusiastic about the showing. Below is a […]

Basel Week Miami ’13: NADA Fair (Part I)

Another satellite fair we visited yesterday at Art Basel Week in Miami is the event put on by the New Art Dealers Alliance. The 11th Miami edition of the NADA fair included more than 90 galleries and was held at the Deauville Beach Resort. Their growing list of exhibitors include some familar names like The Hole, Andrew Edlin, Marlborough Chelsea, and Bill Brady KC (seen above with some nice Michael Manning paintings). Basel Week Miami ’13: Untitled Art Fair

Yesterday, we visited one of the satellite fairs for Art Basel Week in Miami – the Untitled Art Fair. In its second year, the event expanded to include 90 galleries and not-for-profit spaces from 19 different countries. Instead of working with a selection committee, the fair uses a curatorial approach trusting the New York-based Omar Lopez-Chahoud to select participants to the invite-only showing. Take a look at some photos below… Discuss Art Basel Week Miami here.

Basel Week Miami ’13: Art Basel First Look (Part I)

Today marked the official opening of the Art Basel main fair at the Miami Beach Convention Center, but yesterday was the exclusive First Choice & Vernissage where a majority of the high profile buying action took place. AM took its annual pilgrimage to Florida to catch the offical launch of Art Basel Week Miami as the flagship fair launched with a slew of household names such as Murakami (seen above), Miro, Koons, Emin, Longo, Calder, Tomaselli, Kusama, Sherman, Nara, Basquiat and many more were featured at one of […]

Basel Week Miami ’13: Brian Viveros & Dan Quintana – “Desensitized13” @ Copro Gallery (SCOPE)

Like in 2010, painters Brian Viveros (featured) & Dan Quintana will be teaming up for a joint exhibition with Copro Gallery with the first showing during Art Basel Week in Miami. Both artists’ portraits of sexy women mixed with surreal elements will be on display at the SCOPE Art Fair from December 4-8 and then move on to Los Angeles to the gallery’s showspace at the Bergamot Station for an opening on December 14th (which will include more originals and limited edition releases). We have some photos here of Viveros’ working […]

Basel Week Miami ’13: Thinkspace @ SCOPE

For those attending Art Basel Week in Miami, SCOPE is one of the satellite fairs that you should have on your list to visit. Thinkspace will be bringing a selection of artists that they have worked on before for a group showing at their booth, but also will have mini-solos from Audrey Kawasaki (seen above) and Dabs Myla (seen directly below) along with a selection of miniature works from Allison Sommers.
