Over the weekend, Shows & Tell Gallery in Toronto opened a two person exhibition, Double Rainbow Rainbow (previewed), a smart curatorial pairing of two woman that each play with color in distinct and effective ways. A couple of nights ago, we headed over to the Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA) to check out two show openings. One was Street Cred (covered), and the other was Inside Out from the renowned Clayton Brothers (featured). The last time Barbara Kruger had a solo exhibition in Los Angeles, it was for the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in 1999. Thanks to L&M Arts in Venice, Angelenos are once again able to immerse themselves in a one-woman show filled with her recent work. Taking a cue from our primitive ancestors, Nate Frizzell (interviewed) went old school by employing man’s oldest writing utensil with his newest body of work. Australian-based artist Rod Luff’s exhibition, The Moleskin Project (previewed) opened last Thursday, which also signified the first show put on at Spoke Art in San Francisco. As the title of the exhibition suggests, the show is comprised of framed and unframed pages taken from Rod’s moleskin that contained an array of oil paintings, studies, thoughts and sketches that he produced in his spare time over the course of a year. A couple weekends ago, Marc Jancou Contemporary opened an impressive three person exhibition, entitled Blankness Is Not A Void, of big-time contemporary art players, Raymond Pettibon, Scott Campbell, and the late Steven Parrino. Campbell’s contributions to the show (covered), further developing his signature cut currency full sheets, was nothing short of spectacular. Black Rat Projects in London recently hosted shooting@earth, a three-day event running from 5 to 7 May which launched @earth, the new photo-essay by Peter Kennard, assisted by Tarek Salhany. Openings: Henry Gunderson – “New Work” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

Last Thursday night, Fecal Face Dot Gallery opened its doors to Henry Gunderson’s second solo show at the SF gallery (the first was in 2009, covered here). The exhibition consisted of of works in colored pencil & ink on paper (with some pieces affixed onto a bulletin board), his mixed media Linear series (which are comprised of the arrangement of various repeated inanimate objects), as well as a video sculpture reflecting his skateboarding lifestyle.
