Saturday night, Martha Cooper (interviewed) launched a special group exhibition at LA’s Carmichael Gallery. If the upcoming Art In The Streets Exhibition at the MOCA is this year’s Superbowl for street & urban art, then consider this show the preceding playoffs. Many of the players in the monster retrospective made an appearance to pay homage to the godmother of street art photography. Openings: COPE2 – “Transition” @ TT Gallery

A true graf legend, COPE2 recently opened up a show in his home city of New York. The new body of work showing at the TT-Underground Gallery entitled “Transition” was a colorful representation of the “wildstyle” graffiti the writer help popularize starting in the late 70s in South Bronx. Openings: Tessar Lo & Andrew Hem – “MAPS” & “Building From The Ground Up” @ Show & Tell Gallery

Last week, the Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto played host to two new bodies of work, MAPS and Building From The Ground Up, from Tessar Lo and Andrew Hem (interviewed) respectively. Toronto collectors packed the showspace to get a glimpse of Tessar’s eyecatching and colorful abstract paintings as well as Andrew’s whimsical sculptures among other things. Charity: Benefit Art Auction @ TT-Underground

Last Saturday, TT-Underground Gallery in New York City hosted the opening of the “Benefit Art Auction” to display works of art to be put on on eBay (here), with 100% of the proceeds going to the Japan Red Cross and GlobalGiving to aid those effected by the recent tsunami and earthquake in Japan. Tonight, things kind of came full circle as Josh Keyes (interviewed) returned to one of the first galleries / websites to support him out there – Fecal Face Dot Gallery. Patrick Martinez recently opened his newest series of works entitled Hustlemania at LA’s Known Gallery. Patrick draws our attention to the everyday things that most may not think is conventionally beautiful. It was said that The Friends of Tony Romanoff was to be curated by Lucas Price, but the intriguing press release we read for this show was so ambiguous that AM didn’t quite know what to expect. Last week AM attended dual receptions to celebrate the launch of Agnès B’s Howard St. flagship store in New York’s SoHo district.
