KAWS certainly has had a busy schedule in the last couple of weeks with multiple openings that drew huge crowds. Openings: Risk – “Metallic Tissue” @ Fabien Castanier

Over the weekend, Fabien Castanier Gallery in Los Angeles hosted an exhibition featuring new work by Kelly “RISK” Graval (interviewed) curated by Roger Gastman. Drawing from a career spanning over 30 years, the legendary hometown graffiti artist has created a diverse body of work collectively entitled Metallic Tissue. Openings: KAWS @ Mary Boone Gallery (Chelsea)

Continuing his spate of strong showings recently, KAWS opened one of two shows over the weekend in New York at the Mary Boone Gallery in Chelsea. For this space, the Brooklyn-based artist created three new wooden sculptures, over eighteen feet high, in a style first seen in Switzerland for a showing for Basel week. These three monumental wooden companions were displayed along with three eight foot tondos. Openings: Billy Norrby – “The Stone Like” @ CHG Circa

On the same night as Ron English’s solo at Corey Helford, their sister gallery several doors down, CHG Circa also hosted an opening reception. The Stone Like featured the paintings of Billy Norrby, rendered in a style reminiscent of the master works from the Romanticism movement. Openings: Ron English – “Popogandastan” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Last Saturday night, fans of Ron English (featured) packed the opening of his newest show at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City, eager to see a new body of work that has been two years in the making. Popogandastan featured pieces that explored the gifted painter’s incredibly detailed world, filled with his surreal cast of characters and lush backgrounds. These need to be seen in person to be appreciated fully so head over if you are in the area before the close date of November 22nd. Discuss Ron English here.

Openings: KAWS “UPS AND DOWNS” @ Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art

Over the weekend, the Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City opened up a new show from KAWS entitled UPS AND DOWNS. The NY-based artist has been on a roll recently (also see PAFA, BAM, MTV, Basel, Tokyo) and it looks like he still has a couple more high profile shows scheduled before the end of the year. Frieze Art Fair ’13 : Highlights (London) – Part 2

Frieze London is one of the world’s leading art fairs and this year it took place from the 17th – 20th of October in Regent’s Park.
