Openings: Mr. – “Sweeet!” @ Galerie Perrotin (Hong Kong)

Last month, the Hong Kong branch of Galerie Perrotin opened a new solo show from Mr. entitled Sweeet! This time, blending his anime-inspired imagery with Western street art and graffiti references, his new paintings were an impressive sight for his fans in the city-state. Along with a large showstopper, the collection of works also included more modestly-sized pieces. Take a look at an interview here as well if you are interested in more insight into the exhibition. With his exhibition Palimpsest at Harvard’s Reischauer Institute (covered) still on view, the always ambitious Tomokazu Matsuyama (interviewed) opens The Standard Rendez-Vous at Zidoun & Bossuyt in Luxembourg. With the new show, we find Matsu pushing his unique combination of abstract, pop and traditional Japanese styles ever forward. Openings: Beyond Eden 2013

Last weekend, the fourth Beyond Eden art fair opened its doors at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park. Great crowds of art lovers showed up to support the various galleries (Thinkspace, C.A.V.E Gallery, Copro Gallery, and Spoke Art) and the artists represented. Some highlights were as special presentation recognizing Greg Escalante’s contributions to the LA art scene, the first showing of Chet Zar’s Ego Death project, as well as the Bird’s Eye View and Wild At Heart II group exhibitions. Moniker Art Fair, one of the events on the week’s busy schedule in London, opened with a private view on the 17th of October. Sharing a venue with Other Art Fair, these two events attracted a huge mass of art collectors, enthusiast, gallery owners and artists. Frieze Art Fair returns to London from 17 to 20 October 2013 showcasing 152 galleries from around the world. Highlights this year include the Gagosian Gallery, displaying five large scale works by pop artist Jeff Koons, from his stainless steel inflatable sculptures series to his Sacred Heart sculpture. Russian artist Dmitry Shorin is currently exhibiting at Erarta Galleries in London until the 16th of November. The body of work titled Flight features paintings that work on his now familiar aviation theme. Included in the showing is a sculpture from his I Believe in Angels series. Openings: John Casey – “Little Excorcisms” @ Breeze Block Gallery

Earlier this month, The Breeze Block Gallery in Portland presented all new works from John Casey (along with Mike Egan’s solo ) entitled Little Excorcisms. For those familiar with the Oakland-based artist’s work, you will recognize his continued exploration of “fictitious human morphology” with his strange creations that seem to take a fantastical view of different body parts. Last month, The Adventures Of Raspberry Finn opened at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City featuring new paintings from Kukula. Taking inspirations from various sources like famous fictional characters and the fashion of Russian designer Ulyana Sergeenko, the LA-based artist created new renderings of her sultry female characters.
