Openings: Parra – “Kind Regrets” @ HVW8

Over the weekend, Dutch artist Piet Janssen aka Parra brought his bizarre and voluptuous imagery to Los Angeles for all enjoy with a showing at the HVW8 Gallery. Entitled Kind Regrets, the exhibition included paintings, drawings, sculptural items as well as murals on the exterior of the West Hollywood showspace. To the delight of all who attended, Parra was happy to interact with, sketch, and talk to his well wishers, collectors, and fans. Jen Stark – “To the Power Of” @ Martha Otero

Yesterday, Jen Stark’s To the Power Of exhibition kicked off at the Martha Otero Gallery, her first solo ever in Los Angeles. Featuring the locally-based artist signature papercut sculptures, the complex multi-colored creations charmed attendees to the showing all night long. Openings: Gregory Euclide – “Observing only the ease of my own slipping toward your unknown” @ David B. Smith Gallery

A couple weeks back, the David B. Smith Gallery in Denver hosted the opening for Gregory Euclide’s latest solo show. Entitled Observing only the ease of my own slipping toward your unknown, the new work sees Euclide continue to walk the thin line between two and three dimensional art. Openings: “Live Free” curated by Mike Maxwell @ Hellion Gallery

Opening on the same night as Space//Form in Portland, artist Mike Maxwell (pictured on the right above with Jocelyn Duke, Mark Dean Veca and Hellion owner Matt Wagner) curated a group exhibition at Hellion Gallery. Openings: Yue Minjun – “The Tao of Laughter” @ Harbour City – Part I (Hong Kong)

Over the weekend, Chinese blue-chip artist Yue Minjun opened his first ever Hong Kong exhibition at the Ocean Terminal (Harbour City). The Tao of Laughter included twelve new silkscreen works as well as publications for fans to peruse and will be open until October 14, 2012. Openings: Fame Festival 2012

After sharing tantalizing photos of some of this year’s Fame Festival murals and some video footage as well, we know have some shots documenting the opening of the group exhibition associated with the event. This year’s stellar lineup included of street artists like Ericailcane, Boris Hoppek, Conor Harrington, Moneyless, Cyop & Kaf, Vhils, Momo, & more and it looks like most of them contributed something to the exhibition including some more experimental ceramic works which is what the town of Grottaglie is known for. Ben Eine – “TO EXPRESS” Installation @ Onethirty3

The Onethirty3 project space in Newcastle ended their memorable two year run with a new installation from Ben Eine entitled TO EXPRESS. Artists who have made their mark at the location included Herakut, Paul Insect, Sickboy, Gaia, Titifreak (covered), INCH, Amy Dover, and Hush (covered) who organized the entire project. Openings: “Space//Form” @ Breeze Block Gallery (Part 2)

Following directly on from Part 1 of our coverage of the busy Space//Form opening, AM now delves a little deeper pictorially into the artwork created for this huge group exhibition of 110 artists with a series of pictures where the art is more viewable (like the Mark Dean Veca installation above). Showing: Adam Neate – “Dimensional Paintings & Editions” @ Elms Lester

Over the weekend, Elms Lesters hosted the opening for another solo (see 2011) from Adam Neate (interviewed) entitled Dimensional Paintings & Editions. The new body of work consisted of exactly that – his signature three-dimensionaly and richly textured paintings that pop right out of the wall and limited edition offerings. The almost sculptural quality of his pieces really need to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. Eric Shaw & Henry Gunderson – “Glint” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

The other weekend, Fecal Face Dot Gallery hosted the opening of a joint exhibition with local artist, Henry Gunderson (directly below) and Brooklyn-based Eric Shaw (above). The two artists’ work complimented the other nicely when displayed in the same venue. Each artist has their own style and take on using geometrical shapes and colors, creating images that were surreal and thought-provoking. Check out photos from the opening below.
