Showing: Travis Louie – “The Secret Pet Society” @ William Baczek Fine Arts

Currently showing at William Baczek Fine Arts through June 2nd is The Secret Pet Society from NY-based painter Travis Louie (interviewed). The new body of work for this Northampton, Massachusetts exhibition focuses in on people and their strange pets, an angle that Travis has explored before. Included are floating creatures, monsters, insects, huge frogs among other bizarre characters, and suffice it to say, some of the owners are not that normal themselves. All the pieces are beautifully executed in his distinctive “vintage-surreal” black and white style. […]

Last weekend, deep in the heart of Los Angeles, the Known Gallery unveiled the latest work from the locally based duo, Dabs Myla. Break Night Lovers featured drawings, paintings, art objects, and a whimsical installation mimicking the inside of house complete with a fridge, painted stove, TV, table, chairs, and more. Executed in the Aussie couple’s signature cartoonish style, the showspace looked like the set of an animated feature where inanimate objects came to life whether painted on walls or in a three-dimensional form. The show […]

Just hours ago, the PRISM gallery in Los Angeles opened their doors to graffiti royalty Barry McGee’s solo showing and the multitude of fans, collectors, and well-wishers who turned up to take in the new body of work. Despite his part as a pallbearer in a recent mural by Sever, the Bay Area stalwart known as Twist demonstrated to the world that his art form was still very much alive with an impressive display featuring paintings, photos, sculptural work (some cleverly motorized), and his signature clusters […]

Discuss Ryan McGinley here.
