Previews: Kehinde Wiley – “A New Republic” @ Seattle Art Museum

Starting on February 11th, the Seattle Art Museum will be hosting a solo exhibition from contemporary portrait painter Kehinde Wiley. A New Republic will feature a selection of the American artist’s work that could be said to be a remix of Old Master paintings where the classic European subjects are typically replaced by young urban men of color, playing with ideas of power and breaking down stereotypes. Upcoming: Pejac (London Solo Show)

We don’t get to see often enough artists who produce striking and clever street works who have equally effective if not stronger studio pieces. If you liked the street pieces that Spanish artist Pejac has been creating around the globe, you’ll surely enjoy the latest series of works he’s been creating for his upcoming London show. Previews: Eric Joyner – “Sweet Dominion” @ Corey Helford Gallery

On February 20th, robots and donuts will be making their appearance in scores at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles. They are of course the favorite subjects of Eric Joyner’s (interviewed) whimsical paintings and will be again for his new body of work entitled Sweet Dominion. David Choe Seeking Artists For Next Igloo Hong Project

After an enlightening trip to Cambodia for the first David Choe (featured) funded Igloo Hong Project with Aryz, Esao Andrews, James Jean, and El Mac, it sounds the he’s looking for more artists for the next trip. Showing: Marcel Dzama & Raymond Pettibon – “Forgetting the Hand” @ David Zwirner Gallery

Currently at the 533 West 19th Street location of David Zwirner in New York, collaborative works collectively entitled Forgetting the Hand by Marcel Dzama and Raymond Pettibon are on display. This is the first time the two locally-based artists have worked together and their modified exquisite corpse technique of swapping a series of drawings to work on where part of what the other person did is concealed leads to some interesting results. On January 14th, Galerie Le Feuvre in Paris opened the 3rd edition of the annual Paper Party group show. Their first exhibition of the year features the same concept they started a few years ago, showing five artists represented by the gallery – Mist, Paul Insect, Ella & Pitr, Pixel Pancho and Daniel Muñoz – San.
