One of the main events of this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii was the release of a POW! WOW! 2104 Featured Artists Series of limited edition prints by the 1xRun, as well as the opening of their popup show along with the Pangeaseed organization. James Jean was one of the secret surprises of this year’s POW! WOW! Hawaii festival in Honolulu. The American artist was invited to the event as a guest first, but once he arrived to the island, he decided to try out his skills in creating a large scale mural for the first time in his career. Showing: “This Is Not A Toy” @ Design Exchange

Currently showing at the Design Exchange in Toronto is a show curated by Pharrell Williams entitled This Is Not A Toy. An avid collector himself, the American singer, songwriter, and producer has lent his expertise to the exhibition dedicated to the rise of the “art toy.” As referenced in the title of the show, the Canadian museum seeks to examine the fine line between art and design object. Aside from lots of amazing murals and a huge list of side events, workshops, shows, parties, etc, POW! WOW! Hawaii is an opportunity for some unusual collaborations between participating artists. One of these is this intriguing mural created by Glenn Barr and Brendan Monroe. Graffiti couple 123Klan recently finished their mural for this years edition of the POW! WOW! Hawaii festival. This was not their only way of participating in the event, as Montreal-based artists, Klor & Scien, also took part in Seventh Letter x RVCA group show (covered), released limited edition prints with 1xRun (previewed), and designed some of the official merchandise of the event. British artists Roid and Insa are part of “team England” at this year’s Pow! Wow! Hawaii, working on an impressive and unusual collaboration. The two are creating another piece in Insa’s ongoing series of moving GIF-ITI’s, which features the interesting concept of creating street art that comes to life when put online in the form of animated gif. American-born and Tel Aviv-based artist, Know Hope, is one of the artists taking part in this year’s Pow! Wow! Hawaii event in Honolulu. Although he originally planned on working on several smaller, hidden pieces in the alleys of the Kaka’ako area, the artist just finished this large mural on a side wall of a local carshop. Upcoming: Chloe Early – “Suspended” @ The Outsiders (London)

Coming up in early April, The Outsiders London will be presenting their first solo exhibition with painter Chloe Early (interviewed). Entitled Suspended, the show will feature the Irish-born, London-based artist’s mid air floating figures, inspired partly by Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s infamous mid-1700s sculpture, The Ecstasy of Saint Theresa, which combined both spiritual and sexual euphoria. A major component of the POW WOW festival in Hawaii is of course the public art that goes up over a week, mostly in the industrial district of Kaka’ako. Last night in conjunction with POWWOW ’14, RVCA & The Seventh Letter teamed up to put on an exhibition featuring some of the graffiti & street artists they are affiliated with.
