Preview: Aftershock LA – Art Auction Benefit

An eclectic art show and event, Aftershock LA, organized by Cafe Mode, is set to open tonight, May 15th at the Royal/T Cafe. The benefit (tickets $25 at the door) is put on to help raise money for Build Change, an international non-profit that designs earthquake-resistant house in developing countries and trains people to build them. After getting off to a great start by holding a grand opening show with French sensation JR (covered), Galerie Springmann.Varol follows it up with another stellar choice – Herakut (interviewed). Although we just got a taste of their recent work, we are looking forward to this solo exhibition by the German street art duo. Our friends from the Corey Helford Gallery brought their West Coast Style to the West Country this evening for the much anticipated opening of “Art From The New World” at the Bristol City Museum and Art Gallery. Haven’t heard from Gaia in while ever since hanging out a little at Art Basel Miami last year, but it looks like he’s participating in two shows in the next couple weeks. First up is a solo at Gallery Heist opening tomorrow night in SF (of which there are some preview pics after the jump). According to his blog, it looks like Conor Harrington (interviewed) is in the Middle East somewhere working on a new project doing what he does best – big complex murals (seen above)! Hopefully we’ll see some of this in Los Angeles as Conor JR, Vhils, and Antony Micallef (interviewed) have next at the Lazarides popup space following the mindblowing David Choe show. Following on from our preview last month, Corey Helford Gallery will open “Art From the New World” at Bristol’s City Museum and Art Gallery in the UK this weekend, and this time not even an act of god is gonna stop em! Originally scheduled to open a couple of weeks ago, the showcase of work by 49 American artists was scuppered by the Eyjafjallajökull volcano.
