Teaser: Barnstormers @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Just recently, the Joshua Liner Gallery gave notice that they were revising their schedule to include an exciting surprise show opening March 18 by the NYC/Tokyo-based artist collective The Barnstormers. According to insider information leaked to AM from a reliable source, the collaborative group (which includes nearly everyone whose anyone in the street art and associated scene) will be creating individual pieces and site-specific installations that will likely span beyond the walls of Liner’s spacious Chelsea gallery into another gallery space in the building. This […]

Preview: Ryan McGinley – “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” @ Team Gallery

We at AM sometimes worry about Ryan McGinley – with all the work he accomplishes, it seems he never sleeps. That, or he is one of the most efficient and productive artists around. Fresh off his Olympics video and photo essay, Pringles of Scotland campaign, and solo exhibition at The Breeder, the phenomenal photographer opens his latest one-man show, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere, on March 18 at Team Gallery. From what we see so far, the show seems to consist of black and white portraits, […]

Preview: The Armory Show 2010

Oh, how time flies! It seems not that long ago, we were running around New York during Armory Week. But it’s actually been almost a year, and the 2010 ARMORY Art Show is now just around the corner. If you can’t wait for March 4th to roll around for the show, we have a little sneak peek of some pieces that will be exhibited at the fair. Check it out after the jump.

Openings: Tessar Lo & Nimit Malavia @ Show & Tell Gallery

Tessar Lo and Nimit Malavia recently opened their shows: “Everything we wanted in our nostalgic future”  and “I can’t love you but we can romance” (respectively) at Toronto’s Show and Tell Gallery. For both artists, this was their first solo show in Canada. Not surprisingly, Toronto art fans filled the house to see the works from the two talented artists. Check out the opening night action after the jump.

Openings: Andreas von Chrzanowski (aka: Case) @ Signal Gallery

Andreas von Chrzanowski (aka Case) opened his first UK solo with the Signal Gallery  (in conjunction with Campbarbossa) this past Thursday night with the finished works were nothing short of sharp and interesting. Utilizing his talents with the spray can, Andreas worked his crisp techniques onto numerous found mediums from books to wood to canvas. As mentioned in our preview, nothing comes without hard work as Andreas does his due diligence with a elaborate photo process prior to working on his pieces. Check out all […]

Releases: Martin Wittfooth – “The Blind Fisherman” Print

Hot on the heels of Martin Wittfooth’s solo show, “Tempest”, opening last weekend at Copro Gallery (previewed here), Virtu Gallery has just released a new fine art edition from the New York based artist. “The Blind Fisherman”, one of AM’s favourite paintings by Wittfooth from last year – the original painting first seen at Jonathan Levine’s Beach Blanket Bingo 2009 summer group show (covered here) – is now available in signed and numbered editions of 40 on varnished paper and an uber-limited edition of 10 on varnished canvas. […]

Highlights: Recommended openings for Feb 17 – 22

The year is just underway, but we can say without a doubt one of the year’s highlights goes down this Saturday in Southern California. The godfather of the so-called “low brow” movement brings his monumental solo exhibition back home to California after turning heads in the Big Apple this past winter. “Conceptual Realism In The Service Of The Hypothetical”, featuring new paintings and sculptures from Robert Williams, opens this Saturday at the Cal State Northridge Art Gallery and is an event not to be missed if […]

Preview: Yoshitaka Amano – “Deva Loka : Los Angeles” & Yoskay Yamamoto – “Tell Me A Story” @ LeBasse Projects

Opening tonight in the main gallery space of LeBasse Projects is “Deva Loka Los Angeles”, a new body of work from Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano. For anime fans out there, you may recognize his work from Vampire Hunter D and for the video game aficionados, you must know of his character designs for Final Fantasy. This show, named after the ancient Indian land of God, will be a ode to his childhood love for American comics, culture, and automobiles. As a bonus, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) […]

Preview: Wayne White – “I Fell 37 Miles to Earth 100 Years Ago” @ Marty Walker Gallery

One of the highlights of our visit to Basel week in Miami last year was seeing Los Angeles artist Wayne White’s work displayed at Mireille Mosler’s booth at the Nada Art Fair. AM has since been looking forward to a showing of Wayne White’s work, and that time has now come in the shape of his solo exhibition “I Fell 37 Miles to Earth 100 Years Age” at the Marty Walker Gallery opening this Saturday in Dallas, Texas. For those not familiar with Wayne’s work, […]

Streets: Swoon

It looks like Swoon (Interviewed) recently visited Philadelphia and gifted the city of brotherly love with some of her street pieces. In town for Philagrafika 2010, the city’s international festival celebrating print in contemporary art, Swoon’s wheatpastes blended in nicely with the snowy landscape. A good time to be in Philly with ESPO’s epic “A Love Letter For You” project also available for viewing. More photos via the Street Spot after the jump…
