Israeli street artist Know Hope’s Los Angeles solo debut “the times won’t save you (this rain smells of memory)” (previewed) opened to a packed house at the Carmichael Gallery. Patrons were in awe with his intricate gallery installation echoing the theme of the show, which was comprised of cardboard buildings, his signature characters, paper raindrops and fishing twine. Equally as impressive was Know Hope’s latest series of works, which featured a free-form poem of sorts, with a powerful coupling of words and images of his characters in […]

Openings: Dzine – “Love & Loyalty” @ Leeahn Gallery (South Korea)

Chicago-based artist Dzine was nice enough to send over images from his latest solo show, “Love & Loyalty,” which opened last week at South Korea’s Leeahn Gallery. From the look of the photos, there’s no wonder why the entire show sold-out before the opening. Dzine’s newest resin and crystal covered paintings are explosively colorful and energetic, especially the gigantic “In the beginning… (after Assumption of the Virgin).” And Dzine, who has become well-known for his tricked-out custom vehicles, unveiled his newest low-rider bike, entitled “Loyalty,” […]

Preview: Mark Flood @ Peres Projects – Basel Week Switzerland (Liste)

Mark Flood is a Texan who produces work that mocks popular American culture and the contemporary art world. His signs on cardboard poke fun at the prestige that culture places on paintings, with such messages as “Another Painting” or “25 More Paintings.” His collages of mutated celebrity portraits challenge people’s perceptions of their relationship with “celebrity” – are you interested in the person themselves or their image as depicted in the poster? How is the feedback to your head affected when that picture is tweaked? […]
