Video / Preview: Damien Hirst – “The Blue Paintings” @ The Wallace Collection

Telegraph recently sat down with Damien Hirst for an interview about his show “The Blue Paintings” (teased) at The Wallace Collection opening tomorrow.  Featuring 25 paintings (all hand done by Hirst), he appears to be opening a new chapter in his career.  With style reminiscent of his idol Francis Bacon, the works still include classic Hirst imagery like the shark jaws, butterflies, dots, and skulls.  It remains to be seen whether he will be as successful with this artistic change of direction.  Check out the […]

Judith Supine’s Studio – Another Look

Judith Supine’s studio must be a popular destination as we have seen pics from visits before (here and here). It’s pretty amazing what this master of collage is able to do with all the chaotic bits of images he saves or creates. Hopefully, we’ll be able to see some street pieces and/or a solo from him in Los Angeles soon. More images after the jump.

Studio Visits: Nate Frizzell

After hanging out with Nate Frizzell at Baby Tattooville, AM stopped by his studio last week to check out the progress for his show opening this weekend. Nate showed us some of the paintings and drawings for “Lost in the Thicket” opening at LeBasse Projects this Saturday, October 17th as well as hinted of a special installation that he will be working on for the show. We walked away impressed by the amount of detail and thought he put behind this new cohesive body of […]

A pretty big show that is sneaking up on us opens this Friday, October 16th in London at the Opera Gallery.  Lori Earley has been working on this show “Laments and Lullabies” for about two years now and we can’t wait to see the new body of work.  Here is a new image “Ms. Pemberton” that Lori sent us to share with our readers.  We’ll have more coverage to follow but for now check out another image after jump (the same that we teased you […]

Interviews / Preview: Esao Andrews – “Farewell Avery” @ Thinkspace Gallery

It’s been a while since Esao Andrews has had a major show and for his many fans, it’s long overdue. Since his showing with Roq La Rue last May, he’s been relatively off the grid – most likely getting ready for this year’s show “Farewell Avery” at Thinkspace, opening TONIGHT. It seems like it has been time well spent because this new body of work took our breath away. Even though we teased you with a peak at “The Conjoined Bell”, we had no idea […]

Preview: Ana Bagayan – “Critters” @ Roq La Rue

Go big… that’s what Ana Bagayan (featured) is aiming for with this show apparently. We were impressed with the larger scale and the amount of detail she put into the paintings she created for this Seattle show. This Friday, her new body of work, “Critters” will open up alongside Tin (interviewed) & Ryan Heshka at Roq La Rue. AM has a preview of the latest set of paintings from this very talented artist to share with you after the jump…

Interviews: Adam Neate – “A New Understanding” @ Elms Lesters

Adam Neate’s second solo show, “A New Understanding” will be opening at Elms Lesters this Friday, October 9th.  From what we have seen from this body of work, it looks like Neate is really continuing to blur the boundaries between painting and sculpture with his use of found materials such as cardboard, metal and perspex.  In our exclusive interview, Neate discusses his upcoming show, which has been in the making for over two years, plus much more.  Full interview and preview images after the jump….

Countdown to Baby Tattooville: Yoskay Yamamoto & Liz McGrath

T-Minus 2 days til the doors open on Baby Tattooville 2009 and we were able to get you sneak peeks from two more artists which are going to be a part of this weekend extravaganza. First up is Liz McGrath, a lady with a talent for finding the beauty in the “grotesqueness” of life. Where we see a dark street corner with unsavory creatures of the night, she sees an alternate perspective where imagination and craftsmanship brings to light artistic gems. Above is her work […]
