Preview: Amy Sol – “Numina” @ Corey Helford Gallery

This Saturday night in Culver City, Amy Sol (interviewed) will be showing again (see 2010) at the Corey Helford Gallery with a new body of work entitled Numina. The delicate and intricate works from Las Vegas-based artist will be on display where dedicated fans will notice her playing with the perspectives in her composition with an increasing focus on the human characters as well as some experimentation with darker backgrounds in some of the pieces. AM was on hand a couple days ago as explosive Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang started his preparations for his upcoming exhibition at the Los Angeles MOCA set to open on April 8th. The showing will be the first West Coast solo for the world-renowned New York-based artist and feature new commissioned works including three gunpowder drawings and a public outdoor explosion event created onsite at the museum. Opening tonight at Martha Otero Gallery is a new show by Delia Brown. Entitled Last Exit: Punta Junta, this exhibition is a continuation of her Guerilla Lounging Project where parties are hosted in the luxuriously pimped out playgrounds of the upper class. The difference is that the ones depicted living it up are those of the middle and lower classes. This Saturday, March 3, in New York, the Last Rites Gallery will be hosting another iteration of their Dark Pop exhibition. The fourth version of the show, which has artists focusing on creating one piece that encompasses what they consider “dark art,” will be curated by Gary Pressman and will feature artists like Alexandra Pacula, Ana Bagayan, Brian Despain, Charles Wish, Dave MacDowell, Mark Garro, Matt Dangler, Matthew Grabelsky, TIN, Travis Lampe, Travis Louie, and more.
