Preview: Alex Gross – “Product Placement” @ Jonathan LeVine

Time flies. The upcoming solo show from Alex Gross (interviewed) that we pointed out to you last month is opening tomorrow, February 25th. In Product Placement, much of what we love from the Los Angeles-painter is apparent including his fascination with consumer culture (good or bad), retro-Asian references, as well as his meticulous attention to detail. Expect many new originals including his series on cabinet cards as well as a new book published by Gingko Press, entitled Now And Then, The Cabinet Card Paintings of Alex […]

Previews: Terry Richardson – “TERRYWOOD” @ OHWOW

In his first solo exhibition in Los Angeles, kinky shotmaker to the stars Terry Richardson will be presenting at OHWOW a more fine art spin to his impressive commercial photographic oeuvre. Opening Friday, February 24th, TERRYWOOD will serve as a refreshing departure from his concept driven yet more constrictive Mom & Dad and HONG KONG exhibitions last year. Preview: Victor Castillo – “The Jungle” @ Jonathan LeVine

Next Saturday, Feb 25th in Chelsea, the disturbing works of Victor Castillo will be on display at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery. The Jungle features the Chilean-born and Los Angeles-based artist’s series of paintings influenced by the preponderance of global protests and violence that has taken over the headlines in recent times. When told through the lens of spooky children’s tales and cartoon-like characters, the ideas of corrupted innocence form a striking metaphor for the socio-economic crisis and political turbulence seen around the world. Preview / Installation: ROA – “Defragmentation” & “Fragments” @ The Scarlett Gallery

The last time we touched on the work of the prolific Belgium-based ROA was when we came across some of his murals during Art Basel Week Miami (here & here). And, the last time we witnessed an indoor showing from the anatomically-inclined artist was in Australia (covered) back in October. Well, we’re happy to report that he has two concurrent exhibitions planned very soon in Stockholm, one on the 17th at a yet-to-be-announced secret location entitled Defragmentation and another entitled Fragments on the 18th at the […]

Preview: “Taco de Lomography” @ Lomography Gallery Store LA

The Lomography brand has been doing its best for the past few years in keeping the analog film camera alive.  Available in mainstream shops such as Urban Outfitters and Amazon, its affordable products produce nostalgic-looking and creative images for a new generation of snapshot takers seeking images that put them apart from the digital camera set. In association with LA Taco, Lomography presents Taco de Lomography – a series which puts the Lomo LC-A, equipped with a Fritz the Blitz flash, in the hands of […]

Opening Friday, February 24th at the Bay Area multipurpose mainstay, the Milan-born artist will show a selection of abstract and pseudo-portraiture work highlighting his technical proficiency with nothing more than a ballpoint pen and ruler, coupled with a wealth of patience and imagination to spare. Showing alongside fellow SF-native Harley Lafarrah […]
