Preview / Setup: Thais Beltrame – “Gravity” @ Art Association of Jackson Hole

AM first encountered Brazilian artist Thais Beltrame’s wistful work a couple years ago at Carmichael Gallery. We are glad to see she’ll be returning to the States for a another show, this time at the Art Association of Jackson Hole in Wyoming. Preview: “Is This Thing On?” @ Gallery 1988 (Melrose)

For those interested in these sort of shows, Gallery 1988, the Melrose location, has a group exhibition tonight featuring artwork of your favorite comedians. There is a massive list of artists and the funnymen or funnywomen they are paired with but we have a small preview (after the jump) of the show entitled Is This Thing On?

Preview: ‘Haymaker’ group show @ Freight + Volume

New York Gallery Freight + Volume open their 2011 season with a group show this week featuring Kristen Schiele (interviewed) and Eric White (interviewed). Haymaker also features Tatiana Berg, Doug Fishbone and Damian Stamer, with the curatorial theme focusing on commerce within art. Preview: Paul Barnes – ‘Happy Valley’ @ Thinkspace

Paul Barnes brings his unique storytelling to Los Angeles this week in the form of his first LA solo show Happy Valley in Thinkspace’s project room. The Scottish artist uses a muted but warm colour palette within his work and the textured plaster backdrop applied to the board he paints on adds a beautiful and timeless depth to his playful compositions.
