Preview: Jeff Gillette – “Dismayland” @ Copro Gallery

Shantytowns and the world of Disney, not a common pairing, but when put together, forms a powerful statement from the mind of Jeff Gillette. His show “Dismayland” opens tomorrow night, April 10th at Copro Gallery and will feature a body of work that melds the excess of pop culture today with what look to be the ghettos of tomorrow. The paintings often confront viewers with strong images such as familiar characters living in the slums, laying haphazardly almost half-dead or using the streets and open-air […]

Preview/Installation: Date Farmers – “Smother Your Mother” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

The Coachella Valley collective Date Farmers (aka: Armando Lerma and Carlos Ramirez) are about to open up a new solo at Jonathan Levine Gallery. “Smother Your Mother” is truly as it sounds – we were overwhelmed by the colors, mediums and works that were created when we stop by the gallery to check out their installation progress. Really rolling up their sleeves, Armando and Carlos were focused on creating an environment that grabs at the viewers, from Yoda, Prison Shanks, and their trademark symbols on found material, […]

Take a look at this recent frenetic video from KrieBeL that captures the feel of an animal exploring the works of the Belgium-based artist. See the original “Urban Jungle” video from last year after the […]

Fans of his mixture of the abstract and realistic work will want to be there for the opening on April 9th. Another preview image after the jump.
