Streets: Mentalgassi for Getxo Photo 2011 (Spain)

For this fifth edition of the festival dedicated to photography, GETXOPHOTO, that takes place in Spain, Berlin collective Mentalgassi decided to create four spherical portraits and float them in the sea. Known for creatively wheatpasting over existing urban objects, this time they decided to take control of the entire process to produce these “elderly swimmers.” Take a look at more photos as well as video from Fermin Aio and Aitor Gisasola after the jump…

Kid Zoom, whom we last caught up with at his New York solo show, was recently featured in a video by Kingbrown Magazine. The detailed footage captures his can control and skills with spray paint quite well and will give you an idea of what to expect for the Young & Free show opening in San Francisco on September 10th at the 941 Geary. In the over 30 year history of the Peanuts comic strip, the iconic characters have been inspiration for generations of artists, with some recent renditions of Charlie Brown featured here on AM (see Banksy and Tim O’Brien).  Now comes an archived short clip from the never released documentary, A Boy Named Charlie Brown, of creator Charles Schulz drawing the lovable loser and talking about what the character means to him on a personal level. Videos: Cai Guo-Qiang – “1040M Underground” @ Izolyatsia (Ukraine)

Just this past weekend, Chinese artist Cai Guo-Qiang opened his newest solo show at Izolyatsia, the  new art center in the industrial city of Donetsk, Ukraine. Entitled 1040M Underground, the new body of work was inspired by the explosive artist’s visit to the coal and salt mines (1040 meters below ground) of Ukraine’s industrial Donbas region.
