AM last showed you street artist Judith Supine’s colorful psychedelic imagery with the unveiling of his massive 18 x 16′ kinetic sculpture piece at the 15 Years of New Image Art show back in January. Curious as to what he’s been up to, the multi-talented Dante Ross recently paid his friend a visit at his home studio where we got a good look at Supine’s recent work in progress. Some pieces look slated for the street and others for gallery shows. Either way, we’re interested […]

Walrus TV is continuing to release their excellent series of interviews. This time, they have for us an older video with José Parlá from probably ’06 ahead of his upcoming show in Hong Kong (more coverage to follow). This video clip is taken from a film from Shaun Roberts and Joey Garfield called “The Run Up,” and in it, Parlá talks about the influences of his brother, his nickname “Ease,” and his technique of emulating deteriorating wall surfaces in his paintings. He even throws in […]
Just in time for Easter, street artist ABOVE put up a fresh piece entitled “Easter AIG Hunt” commenting on the greed and wrongdoing of AIG executives. Check out the video above and see detailed photos of the piece after the jump.
Following up on our Shepard Fairey hits up SXSW coverage, MyLocationScouts posted a nice video of Shepard Fairey and the Obey Giant crew wheatpasting on the side of Home Slice Pizza in Austin. Oos Botos Gallery in Hong Kong will be hosting “Reading Through Seeing,” José Parlá’s first solo exhibition in Hong Kong. The show will open on May 14th and will be accompanied by a fully illustrated catalog with an essay by author and New York University scholar Alexandra Chang. At first glance, Parlá’s characteristic calligraphy meets graffiti, writing meets painting style seems like random strokes, albeit beautiful random strokes. But, closer examination and understanding of his work reveals that his paintings are a journal of his […]

New Image Art packed the house last night with their “American Realities” group show featuring the work of Barry McGee, working under the pseudonym Lydia Fong, his wife Clare Rojas, and their long-time friend and collaborator Andrew Jeffrey Wright. McGee presented some classic pieces containing his iconic figures and continued his exploration of geometric patterns and shape with an installation that encompassed one of the gallery’s walls. Fans were excited that the normally private and reclusive McGee graciously chatted with and signed and sketched for […]
Last night marked the opening of Joseph “2H” McSween’s (interviewed) debut Los Angeles solo at the Ronin Gallery. 2H delighted the enthused crowd with a body of work featuring his intriguing female subjects and a vibrant eight foot acrylic and spray paint mural on the gallery’s main wall. AM was impressed with the execution of the pieces, a true testament to 2H’s tremendous artistic and technical growth over the past year. From the piercing eyes of his girls, to the fine balance of colors and […]
Check this video from the spectacular Os Gemeos show at CCBB of Rio de Janerio. One of their signature “Box Head” installations was up in the show. The gorgeous box which measures 64 feet in volume is painted much like the classic Os Gemeos yellow characters. The interactive “Box Head” is suspended a few feet off the ground to encourage the museum goers to “stick their head in” and wear the ginormous mask. Once inside, the viewer is transported to a reflective dimension that resembles space. This effect is created through strategically placed lights along […]
