Auctions: Picasso Painting Sells For Record Price

History was made in the art world last night. There is a new record holder for priciest work ever sold at auction and that distinction belongs to Nude, Green Leaves and Bust by Pablo Picasso. The 1932 painting sold for $106,482,500 (after auction fees were accounted for) to an unidentified phone bidder at Christie’s. One our stops in this past weekend’s art tour de force in NYC was Scott Campbell’s “If You Don’t Belong, Don’t Be Long”. Hailing from Miami, OHWOW Gallery created a hip Soho pop-up space that was new to AM eyes. The minty fresh location drew boatloads to the opening night festivities. Scott’s latest series of works definitely “wowed” us even more than anticipated than from our teaser and preview articles. Tonight, May 4, the auction season opens to a roaring start, as Christie’s NY has its Impressionist/Modern sale and an auction from the Collection of Mrs. Sydney F. Brody. As always, the art and financial worlds will look at the auctions as a gauge of confidence in the overall art market. The print, entitled “Hausman,” is an image of one of Cyr’s NYC delivery trucks we loved from his show at Raandesk Gallery (covered). Streets: Banksy in SF (Part IV)

Apparently Banksy has been real busy in San Francisco as another five new stencils have been discovered (see previous six here). Combining business with pleasure, the stealthy street artist has hit up famous spots like the Fisherman’s Wharf and Alcatraz. We can’t remember the last time Banksy has gifted one city with so many street pieces, so fans in the Bay Area are definitely the subject of some worldwide jealousy at the moment.
