Releases: Shepard Fairey and WK Interact – “Revolution Girl”

With WK Interact’s latest body of work currently showing at Subliminal Projects (covered), it’s no surprise that SP has decided to release a few of the remaining Shepard Fairey X WK Interact “Revolution Girl” screen prints from 2007. The print is signed by both Shepard and WK, measures in at 18″ X 24″ and can be found here.

The Fall art season in NYC has been particularly good this year, and it seems to just keep getting better. We finally made it over to see the new Kristin Baker show entitled “Splitting Twilight” at SOHO’s Deitch Projects, and not ever having seen her work in person before, we were blown away. Benefit: MOCA gala raises $3.5 Million

Resuscitated from the brink of death, Los Angeles’ MOCA held their 30th anniversary gala last weekend to kick off their new exhibition “Collection: MOCA’s First Thirty Years.” The black-tie affair raised $3.5 million more for the institution and was capped off by the Frank Gehry-designed hat wearing Lady Gaga’s performance (seen above) with the Bolshoi Ballet where she sang and played on a rotating pink grand piano created by Damien Hirst. Openings: LeBasse Projects “Go East” NYC Pop-Up Show

AM stopped by last week to check out the Culver City based LeBasse Projects and the art that traveled to New York for their “Pop Up” show. Only in town for less than a week, “Go East” showcased the work of Yoskay Yamamoto (featured and seen above), Tessar Lo, Edwin Ushiro, Joao Ruas, Eric Fortune (interviewed), Mia (interviewed), and Nate Frizzell (featured). 50 Parties Art Auction @ Ryan McGinness Studios

On Friday, AM had the pleasure of attending one of Ryan McGinness‘ exclusive 50 Parties events held at his SOHO studio. Given that all the major New York auction houses had held their fall sales during the week, it was appropriate that McGinness’ party that night was itself an auction – but one in which the artists themselves were the sellers, with no auction house taking a commission. If you a fan of Alexandros Vasmoulakis and looking forward to his first US solo in March at LeBasse Projects, then “The Good The Bad and The Ugly” group show should serve as a nice appetizer for you. Vasmoulakis, originally from Athens, is primarily known for his street work, particularly the large murals depicting his contorted and slightly abstract figures all painted in his signature illustrative style. Friday night saw the opening of Tim Biskups’ “I Hate Everyone But You” exhibition (previewed) in Melrose at De La Barracuda. Featuring paintings, sculptures, prints, and toys from the creator of the Helper, the comprehensive show was enjoyed by all. Along with Biskup, his friend Matt Goldman aka MFG also displayed some of prints. More pics afte the jump…
