Releases: James Jean – TMNT Villains Figures

Following up on the first phase of his  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collaboration with Good Smile in 2014 (covered), James Jean (interviewed) will be releasing some of the villains from the cartoon series, films, and comic books. The Japanese manufacturer of hobby products is teaming up with Nickelodeon and Jean to design new collectible versions of Shredder, Bebop, Rocksteady and Krang. Releases: Luke Chueh – “The Prisoner (Oxycontin)” Figure

This Saturday (February 25th, 5-9pm), Luke Chueh (interviewed) will be releasing the OxyContin 20Mg variant of The Prisoner figure based on one of his paintings. The pink version features one of the Los Angeles-based artist’s signature sad bears sitting entrapped in a pill bottle (just like his Vicodin edition). Releases: Futura x Uniqlo Collection

After a recent successful collaboration with KAWS, Uniqlo has teamed up with another artist and his iconic imagery for their UT line – Futura. The released images feature many of the renowned graffiti artist’s signature touches emblazoned on t-shirts like his atoms, pointmen, textured background, script. On February 22, URBAN NATION in Berlin introduced the 11th edition of their Project M/ series with an exhibition titled Radius. Openings: Sam Friedman – “LOVE SONGS” @ Library Street Collective

Showing through April 8 at the Library Street Collective in Detroit is an exhibition from Sam Friedman. For LOVE SONGS, the artist from New York has a series of canvases as well as over 30 paintings on paper on display that look back on his exploration of beach scenes and sunsets. Utilizing a variety of techniques that speak to his background, the colorful work continues his deconstruction and revision of natural landscapes, achieved through a balanced mix of abstraction and figurative elements.
