Upcoming: Junko Mizuno – “Takarabune” @ Nucleus Gallery

Tonight in Los Angeles, Nucleus Gallery will be hosting a new exhibition from Junko Mizuno entitled Takarabune. The solo from the Japanese artist continues her exploration of the pop culture and the spiritual aspects of her country with an emphasis on the Seven Lucky Gods, as referenced by the title of her show. A collection of hand-made head dresses and accessories inspired by Mizuno’s paintings by artist Alston Stephanus will also be on display during the opening. Discus Junko Mizuno here.

Basel Week ’16 / Openings: Wynwood Walls Exhibition

In addition to the new murals (covered) painted at Wynwood Walls for this year’s Basel Week Miami, Goldman Global Arts also opened an exhibition at the Garden House in the complex. The group show featured original paintings and sculptural works from many of the artists who have been involved with Wynwood Walls in the past. Showing: Ai Weiwei – “Laundromat” @ Deitch Projects

Currently at Deitch Projects in New York through December 23rd, Ai Weiwei has an immersive installation on view entitled Laundromat. Continuing to address the refugee crisis in Europe, the Chinese artist (once a refugee himself) has filled the large space with garments, shoes, and personal effects that he acquired from the refugee camps housing Syrian immigrants near the border of Greece, along with snippets of media coverage and photos he took. Release: El Mac – “Peyote Blossoms” Print

It’s hard to believe but the Peyote Blossoms print from El Mac is still available from Santo Press. The 13.5″ x 10.5″ image on 17.5″ x 13.5″ paper comes in an edition of 45 and costs $300. The beautiful six color relief print from photopolymer plate and multi-block linocut comes signed and numbered and can be purchased here. Discuss El Mac here.

Releases: Jeff Soto – “Flower Ornaments”

Just in time for Christmas, Jeff Soto (interviewed) has designed some ornaments based on his flower and seeker imagery. Released through Plywerk, each one is $26 each or can be purchased in a set like the flower bundle where each bloom represents a month of the year. Check out all the available options here. Basel Week Miami ’16 / Streets: Wynwood Walls

While in Miami, we of course stopped by the Wynwood Walls complex to see what new updates they had to their program this year. One of the highest profile street art related projects for Basel Week Miami added new murals this year from Audrey Kawasaki (offsite – previously covered), AVAF, Beau Stanton, Case, Dasic Fernandez, David Choe (seen above), Faith47, Felipe Pantone, Findac, Okuda, Pixel Pancho (seen above), Risk, and Tatiana Suarez. Releases: Josh Keyes – “Descent” Print

On December 10th, starting at 10 am PST, Josh Keyes (interviewed) will be releasing a time-limited edition entitled Descent. The image taken from a piece he contributed to SCOPE Miami (covered) featuring the tail of a whale fluking covered in graffiti, a theme he has explored before with graffiti seen in unusual places.
