Streets: James Bullough (Richmond)

For those who enjoyed the mural James Bullough painted at the Long Beach Museum of Art (covered), take a look at what he followed it up with. Going big in Virginia for the Richmond Mural Project last month, the Berlin-based artist got up on the side of building situated on Lombardy & Broad streets. His portraiture oftentimes features the image broken up sporadically like it was transmitted with glitches, resulting in a signature fractured look. Photo credit: Benjah Photography. James Jean x Momofuku Commission

After painting a mural last month for POW! WOW! Long Beach (covered), James Jean (interviewed) has started work on a new project. Utilizing large panels, the gifted painter looks to be prepping a large installation for friend and chef David Chang’s Momofuku restaurant group. The name can be loosely translated to “lucky peach” which explains why Jean used the peach as his focus for the commissioned works. Releases: James Jean – “Pescados” Print

On August 8th, James Jean (interviewed) will be offering up another time-limited print on his webstore entitled Pescados. Each one (image size: 8 ⅜″ tall × 6 ¼″ wide, paper size: 11 ⅜″ tall × 7 ¼″ wide) is signed and numbered and will cost $100. The edition size will be determined by the number of orders in a 48 hour window from 12:01 AM PDT on Saturday, August 8th until 11:59 PM on Sunday, August the 9th. Discuss James Jean here.

Streets: James Reka (Paris)

James Reka recently finished his largest mural ever at 18 Rue Regnault in the Arrondissement des Gobelins in Paris. Working five long days on a cherry picker, the Berlin-based artist spent some 250 liters of paint for this massive piece. Covering a 30 meters high facade of a 11 storey residential brick wall building, the Australian-born  artist painted a recognizable colorful piece. By putting together abstract, organic looking shapes, he was able to create this figurative image that mirrors the work presented at his recent solo show in Milan (covered). […]

Releases: Pharrell Williams x Todd “REAS” James x Mr. x Zaha Hadid x Cass Bird adidas Originals Supershell Collection

American singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer, and fashion designer Pharrell Williams once again has collaborated with adidas Originals on a soon to be released collection with the Supershell. Williams teamed up with Todd “REAS” James, Mr., architect Zaha Hadid, and photographer Cass Bird on a series of sneakers that features a different graphic or sculpt to the shelltoe. Six were designed by Williams himself which in total comprised the 10 different designs, which will be offered in black or white colorways starting next month. Via Hypebeast.

Previews: “Invisible College” @ Fort Wayne Museum of Art

This weekend, a show co-curated by Andrew and Shawn Hosner of Los Angeles’ Thinkspace Gallery and Josef Zimmerman of the Fort Wayne Museum of Art will open at the museum. Entitled Invisible College, the group exhibition refers to the fact that many of the participants have found success outside of the traditional art educational model. POW! WOW! Long Beach ’15: James Jean

Over the weekend, James Jean (interviewed) completed one of his tallest murals yet for POW! WOW! Long Beach (see our coverage here). Painted on the side of the historic Varden Hotel in the heart of downtown, the striking black and white mural was placed next to a wall by Tristan Eaton (more on this later).
