London art fans turned out this Thursday night to witness the most simultaneously fun and original show we’ve witnessed since, well, probably ever! The “Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade” is in town and after a week of installation time, is now officially open for business! Faile (aka: the Patricks) and Bast transformed the ground floor into a fully functioning video game arcade, with old school cabinets – some of which we recognized from our misspent youth – being given the paste-up treatment. On Jan. 30, Gagosian Gallery on Madison Avenue opens an exhibition containing works by the most famous and controversial contemporary art superstar of his generation. Much anticipated show The Thousands (previewed) opened with great success on Wednesday, November 18th. From the outdoor murals gracing the exterior of Village Underground to the thoughtfully curated collection of artwork within, RJ Rushmore’s debut exhibition highlights some of the strongest representatives of the street art scene. Openings: “Represent” Group Show @ Blackall Studios

A group show that we previewed here a while back, “Represent,” opened a couple weeks ago at Blackall Studios in London. Curated by Matt Small (interviewed), the show featured artists such as Swoon (interviewed), and ELBOW-TOE (interviewed) among others – all who have developed their own approach to portraiture. Once reserved for the rich, these artists use portrait painting to bring focus to social issues that otherwise may go unnoticed. If you a fan of Alexandros Vasmoulakis and looking forward to his first US solo in March at LeBasse Projects, then “The Good The Bad and The Ugly” group show should serve as a nice appetizer for you. Vasmoulakis, originally from Athens, is primarily known for his street work, particularly the large murals depicting his contorted and slightly abstract figures all painted in his signature illustrative style. Chloe Early’s (interviewed) solo show “Clouded Apollo” opened at StolenSpace Gallery last week in London. Just as we suspected after our studio visit earlier in the month, her new body of work was well-received with lots of fans attending to show their support. Chloe mixed buildings, sun-bathers, tanks, and what looked to be a common theme – roses and butterflies together in an pleasing eclectic composition. More images after the jump…
