Openings: Ryan McGinley – “Moonmilk” @ Alison Jacques Gallery

The anticipation that has been built up over the past few months by Ryan McGinley, starting with his few teaser pieces at Art Basel, has finally culminated in the opening of his first solo show in over a year. Arguably the best photographer of his generation and one of the freshest talents today, McGinley debuted a exhibition of 24 new photographs ranging in size from the manageable 9″x14″ to the spectacularly impressive 110″x72″. Openings: Dalek & Delta Exhibition @ Elms Lester

Last night, Elms Lester held a special private viewing as two top notch international artists visited the London gallery to show off their unique and contrasting geometric styles. The Dutch artist known as Delta (Boris Tellegen) showed off a diverse arsenal of new works (including sculptures, paintings and 3-D installation pieces) which depicted the complex layers and symmetry that we’ve come to expect from the graffiti artist. “Low Fidelity,” (previewed) the latest body of work from French urban artist Invader, has taken over Lazarides – Rathbone Place. Featuring his “Rubikcubism” technique, an offshoot of his artistry with colored tiles, Invader utilizes the faces of the popular puzzle game as pixels in his images, which he utilizes to create a new series of classic rock and roll album covers,  sculptures, drawings and mosaics. Openings: Gilbert & George – “Jack Freak Pictures” @ White Cube

London duo Gilbert & George has returned to White Cube to show in their home town for the first time since their 2007 retrospective at the Tate Modern. The show, “Jack Freak Pictures” focuses on the Union Jack flag of Great Britain and G&G’s signature psychedelic photo transformation process. Openings: “Shinganist” Group Show @ Stolenspace

The Usugrow curated group show “Shinganist” made it’s way to the UK last night with an opening in London. Recently exhibited at Fifty24SF (covered), the paintings, sculpture and drawings of Bene, Mozyskey, Toshikazu Nozaka, Jun Kaneko, and of course Usugrow were on display at Stolenspace, exposing a new audience to these young artists from Japan. Openings: “Ways of Seeing” @ Black Rat Press

Black Rat Press‘ stunning lighting rig came into its own this past Thursday when the new three-person show “Ways of Seeing” opened. Featuring new work from Swoon (interviewed), Brian Adam Douglas a.k.a. Elbow-Toe (interviewed) and Matt Small (interviewed), the vibrancy and luminosity of the colors of Douglas’ and Small’s work was really highlighted by the controlled approach to lighting against the brickwork backdrop of the gallery. More after the jump…
