On February 11th, the Joshua Liner Gallery in New York will open a solo exhibition by Michael Kagan. Entitled Lights Out, this new body of work by the Brooklyn-based painter focuses on man’s moments of triumph over nature’s limits. As the name of the exhibition indicates, the Kagan pushes the boundaries of his amped up compositions to include situations in which there are nearly no margin for errors. On February 5th, Galería Javier López in Madrid officially closed their exhibition by the New York artist Alex Katz. Portraits included a selection of works which brought the artist wide recognition, including some of his most recent pieces, both oil on canvas and studies on board. Streets: Nychos (Bangkok)

After a look earlier this week at what ROA painted for the BUKRUK Urban Arts Festival in Thailand, here now is a look at Nychos’ contribution. Taking inspiration from the Bangkok heat, the Austrian street artist painted a rubber ducky on meltdown, of course with the insides revealed with his usual aesthetic. Releases: Yoskay Yamamoto – “Sunny Flower” Series

Several days ago, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) released more iterations of his “Sunny Flower” series. The potted blooms are customized with the Los Angeles-based artist’s signature facial features and take inspiration from his job during college was delivering bouquets in Santa Barbara. With Chinese New Year coming up on Monday, interTrend in Long Beach has teamed up with James Jean (interviewed) for an interactive installation to celebrate the occasion. The project centers around the red envelopes given out around the holidays by families for good luck. In this case, they have been secured to the front of the company’s building (228 E. Tomorrow (February 7th) will mark the third time Thinkspace has curated a show in association with POW! WOW! Hawaii at the Honolulu Museum of Art School (see 2015 & 2014). Today at the Hudson River Museum, sculptor Thomas Doyle is opening a new show entitled If The Creek Don’t Rise. Last month, the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City kicked off the new art year with Linnea Strid as one of the featured artists. Love Me When I’m Gone filled the project room space with the Swedish artist’s hyperrealistic paintings, portraiture accented by the subjects interaction with water whether that be submerged or enjoying a shower.
