Installation / Videos: Pejac – “Heavy Sea”

We’ve seen Pejac paint large indoor murals, small street pieces, window drawings, install sculptural works in public, create visual illusions on facades and walls, but we never seen him turn his paintings into reality. Until now. The Spanish artist just shared his latest project, Heavy Sea, titled after his watercolor painting from a few years ago depicting a lifesaving ring on top a tire dump. Recently, he came across a location that looked pretty much exactly like the one he drew, so he decided to re-create the image in […]

Beginning with aggressive and abstracted compositions that most often […]

Openings: Jonathan Viner – Strange Math @ Roq la Rue

Earlier this month, Roq la Rue hosted it’s first opening of 2016 with Jonathan Viner’s Strange Math.  This marks a new less-is-more approach for the Seattle gallery, focusing on one artist a month, with a couple group exhibitions during the year. The show from the Brooklyn-based artist provided a great start to the new year with the large paintings filling the main floor of the gallery. Bright neon-like colors have infiltrated Viner’s usual muted color pallet, giving the paintings their own glow.  Provocative subject matter and […]

Installations: Ai Weiwei (Berlin, Prague)

Ever since Ai Weiwei moved to Berlin after Chinese authorities returned his passport in 2015, he’s been actively working towards raising awareness about the refugee crisis that is hitting Europe. After reporting from and opening a studio on the Greek island of Lesbos, closing down his exhibition in Copenhagen in protest at a new law that allows Danish authorities to seize valuables from asylum seekers, China’s most acclaimed contemporary artist got the world’s attention once again with his recent interventions. He recently opened his world touring Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads […]
